The Dell Rapids Quarriers held off a furious run at by the Madison Bulldogs for a 62-61 win in Madison on Tuesday, March 3rd. With the win Dell Rapids advances in the Region 3A Tournament.
The game was close throughout the entire contest. There were six lead changes and five ties. Madison held a 12-9 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Quarriers outscored the Bulldogs 16-12 in the second quarter for a 25-24 halftime lead.
Dell Rapids was able to extend their lead to 45-41 going into the fourth quarter. The Quarriers continued to lead by four points, 52-48, with 4:00 to go in the game. Madison was within three points, 58-55, with just under two minutes to go. Camden Jones made a layup, and Lincoln Anderson got a steal and a layup within seconds of each other, and the Quarriers led 62-55 with 1:25 to go in the game.
The Bulldogs were able to make back-to-back three-point shots in under :45 to make the score 62-61 with :47 to go in the game. Madison got a steal on the next Dell Rapids possession to get the ball back with :20 to go and a chance to win the game. A fall-away shot came up short, and the Bulldogs couldn’t get another shot off before the buzzer sounded after an offensive rebound giving the Quarriers the win.
Dell Rapids shot 57% (24-42) overall in the game, 40% (4-10) from three-point area, and 67% (10-15) from the free-throw line. Madison finished the game shooting 45% (25-56) overall, 24% (6-25) on three-point shots, and 46% (5-11) from the free-throw line.
Jones had 24 points and four rebounds. Anderson added 12 points. Carson Maeschen finished with eight points and two rebounds. Jackson Peppel had seven points and two rebounds. Karson Paye ended with six points, five rebounds, and four assists.
Dell Rapids will play West Central on Friday, March 6th.
