Jersi Schultz and Elin Schoenhard delivered a potent 1-2 punch for the Dell Rapids Quarriers on Thursday, January 15th. Both of them scored over 20 points each in a 67-60 road win over the Beresford Watchdogs.
Both teams had the offense rolling in the opening quarter. The Watchdogs would build a 21-17 lead by the end of the first quarter. Dell Rapids started the second quarter on a 10-0 run to go in front 27-21 with 4:45 to go in the quarter. Beresford responded with an 8-0 run to retake the lead, 29-27, with 2:30 left to play in the half. The Watchdogs led 34-31 at halftime.
Beresford doubled their lead to six points, 43-37, with 4:30 to play in the third quarter. That’s when the Quarriers went on a run. Dell Rapids ended the third quarter with a 13-4 run for a 50-47 lead going into the fourth quarter. They were able to stay in front the rest of the game for the 67-60 win.
Dell Rapids shot 47% (24-51) from the field overall, 1-9 on three-point attempts, and 56% (18-32) from the free-throw line. Beresford finished the game shooting 28% (20-71) overall, 23% (5-22) from three-point area, and 58% (15-26) from the free-throw line.
Schultz and Schoenhard each had a double-double. Schutlz finished with 25 points, 18 rebounds, and two assists. Schoenhard had 21 points, 14 rebounds, and two blocked shots. Rorie Thoreson had eight points, four assists, and four steals. Claire Witte finished with seven points, six rebounds, and five assists.
