A huge spurt by the Sioux Falls Christian Chargers in the opening quarter proved to be the difference as the Chargers defeated the Dell Rapids Quarriers 70-40 on Tuesday, January 13th.
After the first minute and fifteen seconds of the game went scoreless between the two teams, the Chargers exploded for 18 straight points for an 18-0 lead. They would end the quarter leading 27-5. The Quarriers were able to settle down after that point, but the deficit was too great.
Dell Rapids hung with Sioux Falls Christian in the second quarter as the Chargers outscored the Quarriers 12-11 to make the score 39-16 going into halftime. The Quarriers started the third quarter with some excitement. They went on a 7-2 run to cut the lead to 41-23 with 5:45 to go in the quarter. The Chargers, however, finished the quarter on a 14-5 advantage for a 55-28 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Dell Rapids shot 33% (15-45) overall in the game, 31% (4-13) on three-point attempts, and 6-9 from the free-throw line. Sioux Falls Christian finished the game shooting 43% (29-68) overall, 25% (5-20) from three-point area, and 50% (7-14) from the free-throw line.
Rorie Thoreson had 16 points, four steals, and two rebounds. Jersi Schultz ended with eight points and eight rebounds. Elin Schoenhard had six points and five rebounds. Taylor Schmidt added five points and three rebounds.
