The Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team made the trip to Dakota Valley High School on Monday, October 6th. The Panthers defeated the Quarriers in five sets by scores of 23-25, 25-22, 18-25, 25-22, and 15-6.
Dell Rapids got out to a fast start in the opening set. They turned a 3-2 lead into a 9-4 advantage. They also led 11-5 and 16-8. Dakota Valley rallied to get within two points, 21-19, and then within a point at 24-23. The Quarriers were able to hold off the Panthers for a 25-23 win. The Panthers took a quick 5-1 lead to start the second set. Dell Rapids fought back to tie the score 9-9 and 11-11. Dakota Valley took a small 16-15 lead. They continued to hold a one-point lead at 21-20 and 23-22 before finishing the second set on a 2-0 spurt for a 25-22 win.
The Quarriers started the third set the same as the first set, with a 3-2 advantage. Dakota Valley went on a 6-2 run for an 8-5 lead. Dell Rapids responded with a 5-1 run to go back in front 10-9. That run gave them the momentum needed to stay in front the rest of the set. They went ahead 21-16 on their way to a 25-18 win. After an early 1-1 tie, the Quarriers took a 6-4 lead in the fourth set. They held the lead all the way to 13-11 and 16-14. The Quarriers still held an 18-17 advantage, but Dakota Valley went on a 5-2 run to go in front 22-20. The late run lifted the Panthers to a 25-22 win to force a fifth set.
In the fifth set, the Panthers went on a big run after early back-and-forth points. After leading 4-3, Dakota Valley went on an 8-1 run for a 12-4 score. The big run helped the Panthers to a 15-6 win to take the match.
Sylea Sykes ended with 11 kills, 10 digs, and two ace serves. Alaina Wolff had 18 digs, 11 set assists, and two ace serves. Madelynn Henry had 34 kills and 10 digs. Tenley Anderson finished with 46 set assists and 21 digs. Peyton Hohn had 10 kills and two blocks, while Elin Schoenhard had five kills and three ace serves.
