Gamecocks End Tournament Run for Mudcats

The Dell Rapids Mudcats had their state tournament run stopped by the Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks on Friday, August 15th.  The Gamecocks scored a late run to earn a 4-3 win over Dell Rapids.

Jake Goble put Dell Rapids in front 2-0 in the top of the first inning with a two-run home run to center field.  The Gamecocks scored a run in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly.  Humboldt/Hartford tied the game 2-2 with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth.  They took the lead, 3-2, the next inning on another RBI single.

Goble tied the game, 3-3, with an RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth scoring Carter Gullickson.  The score remained 3-3 until the bottom of the eighth inning.  With two outs the Gamecocks got a triple.  The next batter hit an RBI single to give them a 4-3 lead.  Dell Rapids got a two-out single by Grant Olson in the top of the ninth inning, but the next batter grounded out to end the game.

Gullickson and Olson had two hits each.  Goble had a home run and all three RBIs.  Chad Hunt had a double, and Caden Alfson had a single.  Reece Arbogast pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits and a walk with 10 strikeouts.  Alfson tossed three innings and allowed an earned run on five walks with three strikeouts.  John Spaeth pitched 1/3 of an inning and allowed an earned run on two hits.
