Late Runs Not Enough for PBR, Defending Champs Defeated by Parkston

The defending State B Champions, Dell Rapids PBR, were defeated in the second round of the 2025 South Dakota State B Amateur Baseball Tournament in Brandon on Monday, August 11th.  Parkston ended the season for PBR with a 5-3 victory.

Neither team was able to score through the first four innings of the game.  Lincoln Fersdahl scored on an error after a ground ball by Brayden Pankonen in the bottom of the fifth for a 1-0 lead.  Parkston tied the game with an RBI double in the top of the sixth, and then took the lead with a two-run double for a 3-1 score.  They increased the lead to 4-1 after scoring on an error in the top of the eighth.  An RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth padded the Parkston lead to 5-1.  Chris Burke had an RBI double with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, and Riley Hoffman followed with an RBI single, but the rally fell short for PBR.

Burke and Hoffman both had two hits, each with a double, and an RBI.  Drew Sweeter also had two hits.  Weston Hansen, Riley Calhoon, and Conner Spindler all had one hit each.  Sweeter pitched seven innings and allowed three runs, but just one earned, on five hits with four strikeouts.  Tad Tjaden pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits with three strikeouts.  Brett Mogen threw 2/3 of an inning and recorded one strikeout.
