Mudcats Fall in District 4B Title Game

The Dell Rapids Mudcats faced Madison Dairy Queen for the District 4B title on Saturday, August 2nd.  Both teams had already qualified for the state tournament to represent District 4B by making it to the championship game.  Dell Rapids scored the first run of the game, but it was all Madison after that as Dairy Queen took the district title with a 9-1 win.

Carter Gullickson started the game for the Mudcats with a bang by belting a solo home run to right field in the top of the first inning.  Madison responded, however, with two home runs of their own in the bottom of the first to go in front 3-1.  They would add single runs in both the third and fourth innings to extend the lead to 5-1.  Madison kept scoring and added a single run in the sixth and seventh innings and then scored two more in the bottom of the eighth for a 9-1 score.

Gullickson finished with two hits, including the home run, and an RBI.  Ty Hoglund, Josh Roemen, Nolan Burchill, and Grant Olson all had one hit each.  Austin Henry started on the mound and pitched two innings allowing three earned runs on five hits and a walk with four strikeouts.  Bruchill pitched three innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits and a walk with four strikeouts.
