Quarrier Softball Opens Season with Win

The Dell Rapids Quarrier softball team was able to finally get their first game played on Friday, April 4th.  The game had to be moved from Dell Rapids to Sioux Falls due to weather, but the Quarriers defeated the Sioux Falls Christian Chargers 12-2 to open the season.

The Quarriers jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the bottom of the first inning.  Lexi Scherff and Ella Johnson both had an RBI single, Kayleigh Gillette had at two-run single, and Emma Lanpher also had an RBI single.  The score remained 5-0 until the bottom of the fourth inning.  Katie Kvigne had an RBI single to make the score 6-0.  Gillette drove home two more runs with a double, Elly Olson had an RBI triple, and Lanpher had an RBI single to make the score 11-0.  Sioux Falls Christian got two runs in the top of the fifth.  Dell Rapids ended the game on the 10-run rule in the bottom of the inning after an RBI double by Rylee Halverson.

Kvigne had three hits and an RBI.  Gillette finished with two hits, one a double, and five RBIs.  Lanpher added two hits and two RBIs.  Olson ended with two hits, one a triple, and an RBI.  Halverson also had two hits, including a double, and an RBI.  Scherff and Johnson both had a single and an RBI.  Paige Trewin also had a single.  Kvigne pitched five innings and allowed two earned runs on seven hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.
