The Dakota Valley Panthers tied the game with a three-point shot at the buzzer and then outscored the Quarriers in overtime for a 58-53 win on Friday, February 14th.
The game went back and forth all night long. The Panthers ended the first quarter with a 17-9 lead. The Quarriers flipped the script in the second quarter. They outscored Dakota Valley 19-6 to take a 28-23 lead into halftime. The third quarter belonged to the Panthers. Dakota Valley outscored the Quarriers 17-5 to go back in front 40-33 going into the fourth quarter.
The Quarriers tied the game 42-42 with 4:35 to play in the fourth quarter. The Panthers regained the lead 46-44 with just under 2:00 to go. Dell Rapids went on a 5-0 run and led 49-46 with :27.6 remaining. The Panthers’ first attempt to tie the game was no good, but on the rebound, the Quarriers were called for a travel giving Dakota Valley another chance with :05.6. The second try for Dakota Valley was good from the top of the key at the buzzer to tie the game 49-49. The Quarriers scored the first four points of overtime to lead 53-49 with 3:09 to go. The Panthers, however, scored the final nine points of the game for the win.
Dell Rapids shot 39% (18-46) overall, 25% (6-24) from three-point area, and 85% (11-13) from the free-throw line. Dakota Valley shot 39% (23-59) overall in the game, 29% (5-17) on three-point shots, and 7-9 from the free-throw line.
Four players finished in double figures for the Quarriers. Tad Tjaden had 14 points and eight rebounds. Karson Paye also had 14 points with six rebounds and five assists. Jack Kloth added 11 points, six rebounds, five assists, and six blocked shots. Lincoln Anderson ended with 10 points.
