The Dell Rapids Quarrier boys were able to grind out a win in a defensive battle against the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies at home on Saturday, January 11th.
Both teams were held to single digit scoring in each of the first two quarters. Dell Rapids had a slim 8-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. Each team scored eight points in the second quarter, and the Quarriers led 16-15 after the first half.
The Quarriers scored the first two points of the third quarter to go ahead 18-15. Elk Point-Jefferson would go on a 12-4 run the rest of the quarter for a 27-22 lead going into the fourth quarter. The Huskies held a game-high seven point lead, 31-24, with 6:15 to play in the game. Dell Rapids scored the next seven points to tie the game 31-31 with 5:00 to go. After the Huskies went back in front 33-31, Jack Kloth converted a three-point play to put Dell Rapids ahead 34-33 with 3:38 on the clock. The Quarriers were able to hold the Huskies scoreless the rest of the game and make enough free throws for a 37-33 victory.
Jack Kloth had 13 points, six rebounds, and three blocked shots. Carson Maeschen had six points. Lincoln Fersdahl finished with five points and six rebounds. Jackson Peppel also had five points with four rebounds. Lincoln Anderson also tallied five points.
