In a battle between the top two teams in Class A volleyball, the Dell Rapids Quarriers made a statement with a straight-set win over the Sioux Falls Christian Chargers on Thursday, September 5th in Dell Rapids.
The Quarriers fed off an electric crowd to start the match on a 6-1 run. That spurt to start the set kept them in front the entire way. The Chargers got within four points, 12-8, but Dell Rapids quickly pushed the lead back to six. Dell Rapids led 23-14 before winning the first set 25-16.
The second set started back and forth and was tied 5-5. The Quarriers then went on a 5-1 run for a 10-6 advantage. The Chargers got back into it, and the score was tied 12-12. Each team had spurts of two-to-three points, but once again the score was tied late at 19-19. After another tie at 21-21, Dell Rapids finished the set on a 4-0 run for a 25-21 win.
Sioux Falls Christian was grabbed momentum early and jumped out to a 8-0 lead to start the third set. Their lead grew to double digits, 14-4. The Quarriers then went on a big 9-0 run to get back into the game, 14-13. From there the score was tied multiple times. Dell Rapids went on a 3-0 run after a 20-20 tie for a 23-20 lead. The Chargers got within a point, 23-22, but the Quarriers shut the door on the rally and took the final set 25-22 for the match win.
Madelynn Henry finished with 18 kills, two ace serves, and three digs. Karlie Ingalls had six kills, three ace serves, and 10 digs. Clara Justice added four kills, three blocks, and five digs. Sophi Randall had 25 set assists, two ace serves, two blocks, and seven digs. Lauryn Kloth had four blocks and four digs. Elin Schoenhard finished with three blocks and five digs. Alaina Wolff had nine digs.
