The Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team hosted the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies on Tuesday, September 3rd. The Quarriers took the match in straight sets to remain unbeaten on the season.
The Huskies and Quarriers battled back and forth in the first two sets. Dell Rapids got out to a 7-3 lead to start the match. Elk Point-Jefferson then went on an 8-2 run to take an 11-9 lead. The two teams were locked into ties of 12-12, 14-14, 17-17, 18-18, and 19-19. Dell Rapids then scored three straight to take a 22-19 lead before winning the first set 25-21.
Elk Point-Jefferson struck first in the second set and started with a 7-1 run. They maintained their lead through most of the set, but Dell Rapids slowly chipped away. The Quarriers tied the score 18-18. The Huskies responded with 5-2 run to go back in front 23-20. Dell Rapids tied the score 23-23. The teams were tied again 24-24 and 25-25. The Quarriers scored the final two points for a 27-25 win.
The momentum of that comeback carried into the third set. Dell Rapids started on a 7-1 run. They extended that lead to 16-5. The Quarriers still lead by double digits, 24-14, but the Huskies made a five-point run to make the score 24-19. Dell Rapids stopped the rally to win the set 25-19 to take the match.
Madelynn Henry finished with 19 kills and 10 digs. Lauryn Kloth had 12 kills, two ace serves, three blocks. Sophi Randall had five kills, two blocks, 14 digs, and 31 set assists. Karlie Ingalls had four kills, two ace serves, and 10 digs. Elin Schoenhard added two ace serves, a kill, and three blocks. Peyton Hohn had two blocks. Alaina Wolff finished with nine digs and five set assists.
