The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls basketball team hosted the Garretson Blue Dragons on Tuesday, December 19th in their final game before the Christmas break. The Blue Dragons took the win 56-45.
The Blue Dragons led at every break in the game. They led 15-8 at the end of the first quarter. The lead grew to 28-19 by halftime. Garretson then outscored Dell Rapids 16-6 in the third quarter for a 44-25 lead going into the fourth quarter. Dell Rapids had a better fourth quarter, scoring 20 points, but the deficit was too much to overcome.
The Quarriers shot 30% (16-53) from the field overall, 25% (3-12) on three-point attempts, and 67% (10-15) from the free-throw line. Garretson shot 50% (24-48) overall, 1-8 from three-point area, and 7-10 from the free-throw line. The big stat in Garretson’s favor was 25 Quarrier turnovers caused by the Blue Dragon pressure defense.
Jersi Schultz had 15 points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Clara Justice added 13 points, seven rebounds, and two steals. Shelby Welbig finished the game with seven points and two rebounds. Rorie Thoreson had four points and three rebounds. Elly Olson added seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
