Quarriers Win Crucial Match over Madison

The #2 ranked Dell Rapids Quarriers hosted the #3 ranked Madison Bulldogs in a crucial Region 3A matchup on Tuesday, October 17th.  The two teams are battling for seeding position in Region 3A as the regular season comes to a close.  On the Quarriers “Pink Out” night, Dell Rapids took the match in four sets by scores or 25-23, 25-21, 23-25, and 25-21.

The first set of the night set the tone for the rest of the match.  There were a total of 14 ties in the opening set.  Madison had the largest lead of three points, 17-14, in the set.  Dell Rapids went on a 5-0 run to take a 19-17 lead.  The score was tied 21-21 before Dell Rapids scored the next two points for a 23-21 lead.  They were able to keep the lead the rest of the way and win 25-23.

The second set was back and forth to begin with ties of 4-4 and 7-7.  The Quarriers went ahead 10-7 and kept a three-point lead at 12-9.  The Bulldogs went on a 6-0 run to take the lead 15-12. They remained in front 19-16, but Dell Rapids rallied to tie the score 20-20.  The Quarriers continued the run and finished the set with a 5-1 advantage for a 25-21 win.

The third set saw each team make runs.  Madison opened the set with a 6-1 scoring run.  Dell Rapids eventually tied the score 13-13 and then went on an 8-3 run for a 21-16 lead.  The Bulldogs responded with a 5-0 run to tie the score 21-21.  After a 23-23 tie, the Bulldogs forced a fourth set with a 25-23 victory.

Momentum seemed to have shifted to Madison as they opened the fourth set with a 4-1 lead.  The Bulldogs remained in front and extended their lead to 15-10.  The Quarriers put together a 5-0 run to tie the score 15-15.  The score was tied again 18-18, and then Dell Rapids delivered the knockout blow of the night.  The Quarriers went on a 5-0 run to go ahead 23-18.  Madison tried to rally and pulled within two, 23-21, but Dell Rapids scored the final two points for a 25-21 win.

Madelynn Henry dazzled with 31 kills in the match along with nine digs.  Clara Justice had 10 kills, a block, and a dig.  Kylee Fiddelke had seven kills, two ace serves, and 13 digs.  Elin Schoenhard added five kills, two blocks, two digs, and an ace.  Lauryn Kloth also had five kills with two digs.  Sophi Randall ended the night with 52 set assists, five kills, two blocks, and 11 digs.  Alaina Wolff had 16 digs, five set assists, and an ace.  Karlie Ingalls finished with 16 digs as well.
