Two top 5 Class A teams did battle on Thursday, August 31st. The #1 ranked Sioux Falls Christian Chargers hosted the #4 ranked Dell Rapids Quarriers. Sioux Falls Christian handed Dell Rapids their first loss of the season, winning the match in four sets by scores of 22-25, 25-17, 25-20, and 25-22.
The Chargers started the first set with a 6-1 run. They led 10-4 before Dell Rapids went on a 7-1 run to tie the set 11-11. Sioux Falls Christian went back in front 17-14, but Dell Rapids went on a 4-0 run for an 18-17 lead. After a 19-19 tie, Dell Rapids finished the first set on a 6-3 advantage for a 25-22 win. The two teams battled to a 4-4 tie to start the second set. Dell Rapids went ahead 8-5, but the Chargers tied the score 8-8. Sioux Falls Christian then went on a 6-1 run for a 14-9 lead. Dell Rapids got back within three points, 18-15, but the Chargers finished the set on a 7-2 run for the 25-17 win
The two teams were locked in an early 6-6 tie to start the third set. Dell Rapids went ahead 11-6 after a 5-0 run, but the Chargers responded with an 8-1 run for a 14-12 lead. After a 15-15 tie, the Quarriers went ahead 18-15 only to see the Chargers take the lead 20-18. Sioux Falls Christian ended the third set on a 5-2 run. Dell Rapids took an early 4-2 lead in the fourth set and even led 7-4. The Chargers responded with a 6-1 run for a 10-8 lead. They grew that lead to 19-11. Dell Rapids rallied to within a point, 22-21, but the Chargers ended the match with a 25-22 victory.
Madelynn Henry had a team-high 23 kills and also had two ace serves. Lauryn Kloth added 11 kills and a block. Sophi Randall finished with 32 set assists, 10 digs, and two blocks. Alaina Wolff added eight digs, and Kylee Fiddelke had two ace serves.
