Phils Squeak by Platte/Geddes in State Tourney Opener

The Dell Rapids Phils only had two hits in the game, but they squeaked out a 2-1 win over Platte/Geddes in the opening round of the South Dakota State B Legion Tournament in Redfield on Friday, July 28th.

Platte/Geddes scored first in the bottom of the third inning on error for  1-0 lead.  Dell Rapids tied the game in the next half inning.  Aiden Boechler hit an RBI single to left field to make the score 1-1.  The score remained tied until the top of the sixth inning.  Dylan Kindt singled with one out.  He then stole second durning the next at bat and advanced to third on a ground out.  Kindt scored the game-winning run on a passed ball with two outs.

Boechler had a single and an RBI, and Kindt also had a single.  Kindt also pitched five innings and allowed one run, which was unearned, on four hits and one walk with 10 strikeouts.  Brayden Pankonen pitched the final two innings and allowed two hits and recorded two strikeouts.

The Phils will play their next game on Saturday, July 29th at 4:00 p.m.
