The Dell Rapids 14U baseball team played two games in Flandreau for the I-29 League Tournament on Friday, June 9th and Saturday, June 10th. They split their two games over the weekend.
Dell Rapids 12, Madison White 6
Dell Rapids built an early 10-0 lead and held for a 12-6 win over Madison White on Friday. Six runs came home in the top of the second for Dell Rapids and then four more in the top of the third for the early 10-0 lead. Madison scored three times in the bottom of the third to make the score 10-3. Dell Rapids added two more in the top of the fourth. Madison White scored their final three runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Jackson Peppel had three hits, two of them doubles, and four RBIs. Hayden Hansen also had three hits, including a double. Jake Heinitz, Rhett Thoreson, and Kaiden Zellmer all had one RBI each. Heinitz pitched 1 2/3 innings allowing three hits and a walk with one strikeout. Gage Bunkers pitched 2 1/3 innings allowing three runs, one earned, on four hits with five strikeouts. Thoreson pitched one inning allowing three runs, one earned, on one hit and two walks.
Flandreau 5, Dell Rapids 2
Flandreau scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie and win the game on Saturday. After a scoreless first inning, Flandreau got two runs in the top of the second. Dell Rapids scored one run in the bottom of the second and another in the bottom of the third to tie the game 2-2. The score remained 2-2 until the three-run sixth inning by Flandreau.
Heinitz, Peppel, and Bunkers all had one hit each in the game. Peppel pitched six innings allowing five runs, four earned, on five hits and three walks with eight strikeouts.
