A Big Rally Late Gives Dell Rapids Win over Vermillion

The Dell Rapids Quarriers scored 15 runs between the fifth and sixth innings to get an 18-7 win over the Vermillion Tanagers on Monday, April 24th in Vermillion.

Kylee Fiddelke got things rolling for Dell Rapids with a solo home run in the top of the first inning.  Vermillion took the lead in the bottom of the inning with two runs.  Lexi Ingalls tied the game with an RBI single in the top of the second.  Dell Rapids regained the lead in the top of the third on an RBI double by Jacey Tebay.  The Tanagers had the first big rally of the game with four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 6-3 lead.

After a scoreless fourth inning, Dell Rapids exploded for eight runs in the top of the fifth.  Two runs scored on a single by Katie Kvigne, Liz Price had an RBI single and then scored on an error, and Tebay capped off the inning with a grand slam home run.  Vermillion scored one time in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 11-7.  The Quarriers put the game away in the top of the sixth with seven more runs.  Ingalls had a two-run double, Fiddelke hit her second home run of the game, Kvigne had an RBI double, and Katie Scherff had a two-run double.

Every player in the lineup had a hit for Dell Rapids.  Tebay had three hits, which included a home run and a double, and five RBIs.  Ingalls had three hits, one a double, and three RBIs.  Kvigne had three hits, one double, and two RBIs.  Rileigh Foster and Kylie Lebahn both had three singles each.  Fiddelke had two home runs and three RBIs.  Claire Wynja had two singles.  Scherff added a double with two RBIs, and Price had a single and an RBI.  Kvigne pitched six innings allowing seven runs, three earned, on 10 hits with nine strikeouts.
