The Dell Rapids Quarriers (16-5) cruised to a Region 3A opening round win over the Tri-Valley Mustangs on Tuesday, February 28th. The Quarriers took care of business at home in a 64-31 victory.
The Mustangs held a lead for the first three minutes of the game, but after Dell Rapids took the lead 5-3 with 4:50 to go in the quarter, the offense kept rolling. The Quarriers held the Mustangs to just two more points in the quarter and had 19-5 lead at the break. They extended their lead to 33-13 by halftime and then 55-21 by the end of the third quarter.
Dell Rapids shot 51% (26-51) from the field overall, 33% (4-12) from three-point area, and 50% (8-16) from the free-throw line. The Mustangs shot just 23% (10-43) overall, 15% (3-20) on three-point shots, and 67% (8-12) from the free-throw line. The Dell Rapids defense also forced 26 Tri-Valley turnovers.
Brayden Pankonen had 21 points, four rebounds, two assists, and four steals. Jack Henry finished with 13 points, three rebounds, and four steals. Rhett Kloth added nine points. Luke Randall had five points and three rebounds.
