Pankonen Eclipses 1,000 Points as Quarriers Defeat Flandreau

Brayden Pankonen went over 1,000 points for his Dell Rapids career on a steal and contest layup early in the third quarter against the Flandreau Fliers on Tuesday, January 31st.  The Quarriers (11-2) shook off a slow start in the first half and defeated the Fliers 63-30 for their fifth win in a row.

Dell Rapids held a six-point lead, 14-8, at the end of the first quarter.  Flandreau was within four points, 17-13, with 4:30 to play in the first half, but Dell Rapids finished the second quarter on a 12-2 run for a 27-15 halftime lead.  The momentum carried into the third quarter for Dell Rapids.  They started the second half on a 13-0 run to lead 42-15 with 3:45 to play in the quarter.  Dell Rapids cruised from there the rest of the game for the win.

The Quarriers shot 50% (27-54) overall from the field, 27% (7-26) from three-point attempts, but just 2-9 from the free-throw line.  Flandreau finished the game shooting 21% (9-42) overall, 2-11 on three-point attempts, and 10-14 from the free-throw line.

Pankonen finished with 15 points, five rebounds, three steals, and two assists.  Camden Justice had a team-high 17 points, four rebounds, two steals, and four assists.  Jack Henry ended with 12 points, five rebounds, two steals, and four assists.  Rhett Kloth had two points, five rebounds, four blocked shots, and three assists.  Luke Randall added six points.
