The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls won their first game of the season at home against the Canton C-Hawks on Thursday, January 5th. Dell Rapids won the game 49-40.
The Quarriers held the lead for most of the game, but was never a large lead. Dell Rapids led 15-13 at the end of the first quarter. The lead was just one point at halftime, 25-24. The Quarriers got the lead back to two points, 33-31, by the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter is when they were able to pull away by outscoring Canton 16-9.
Dell Rapids shot 29% (16-56) from the field, 42% (10-24) from three-point area, and 54% (7-13) from the free-throw line. Canton was 23% (15-66) from the field, 10% (2-20) from three-point area, and 73% (8-11) from the free-throw line. Dell Rapids also out-rebounded Canton 44-36.
Claire Wynja finished with 21 points, five rebounds, two blocks, and two assists. Jenna Miller added 15 points, eight rebounds, three steals, and four assists. Liz Price ended with six points and 15 rebounds. Kerrigan Kindopp also had six points.
JV Results
After an extended time off due to the recent snow fall, the Quarrier JV basketball team hosted Canton on Thursday night. The layoff proved costly for the home team as they lost 9-56. Kassy Stykel, Adah Cavigielli, and Mya DeStigter all had three points each.
