Quarrier Girls Finally Play First Game of Season

After waiting almost two extra weeks and having multiple games postponed, the Dell Rapids Quarrier girls basketball team finally took to the court for the first time for the 2022-2023 season.  Dell Rapids played the Chester Flyers at the Entringer Classic in Colman on Saturday, December 17th.

The game was close throughout its entirety.  The two teams ended with a tie score at the end of the first and second quarters.  The game was tied 15-15 at the end of the first quarter and tied 27-27 at halftime.  After trailing for a lot of the third quarter, the Quarriers got on a roll and held a 41-39 advantage at the end of the quarter.  Chester was nearly perfect shooting in the fourth quarter, missing only two shots.  The Flyers turned a one-point lead, 45-44, with 5:49 to play into a 10-pound lead, 58-48, with 2:05 left in the game.  Dell Rapids cut the lead to four, 58-54, with under a minute to play, but Chester took the win 59-54.

Dell Rapids shot 29% (20-68) overall, 19% (6-32) on three-point shots, and 53% (8-15) from the free-throw line.  Chester finished 38% (23-60) from the field, 25% (4-16) from three-point area, and 64% (9-14) from the free-throw line.

Four players finished in double figures for Dell Rapids.  Liz Price had 16 points and eight rebounds.  Elly Olson finished with 12 points, five rebounds, and four steals.  Jenna Miller had 12 points, five rebounds, three steals, and three assists.  Claire Wynja added 10 points, four rebounds, and two assists.

Dell Rapids (0-1) will travel to Garretson on Tuesday, December 20th.
