Big Run Lifts Quarrier Boys to Season Opening Win

At is The Dell Rapids Quarrier boys basketball team opened their 2022-2023 season with a home win over the West Central Trojans on Friday, December 9th.  The Quarriers used a big run in the fourth quarter for the 57-44 win.

West Central had an 11-10 lead after the first quarter of play.  Dell Rapids was able to take the lead in the second quarter and held a 24-20 advantage at halftime.  The Quarriers pushed that lead to 30-22 with 5:00 to go in the third quarter, but the Trojans responded with an 8-0 run to tie the game 30-30.  The third quarter ended with Dell Rapids leading 38-37.  West Central got the first basket of the fourth quarter and led 42-40 with 6:10 to go in the game.  Dell Rapids then went on a big 17-2 run to end the game.

The Quarriers shot 43% (22-51) from the field, just 2-16 from three-point area, and 73% (11-15) from the free-throw line.  West Central was 38% (15-39) overall, 33% (7-21) from three-point area, and 44% (7-16) from the free-throw line.

Brayden Pankonen finished with 16 points, three rebounds, three steals, and three assists.  Jack Henry had 13 points, three rebounds, and four steals.  Tad Tjaden added eight points and three rebounds.  Rhett Kloth had six points and eight rebounds.  Will Jaton had five points, and Camden Justice and Luke Randall both had four points each.
