Dell Rapids Volleyball Falls to Garretson in Region 3A Tournament

The Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team had their season come to an end in the opening round of the Region 3A Tournament on Tuesday, November 1st.  The Quarriers hosted the Garretson Blue Dragons, and the Blue Dragons won the hard-fought five-set match.

The Quarriers went on a little run in the first set after a 7-7 tie.  Dell Rapids went on a 5-1 run for a 12-8 lead.  Garretson battled to tie the score again 17-17 and then score the next five points for a 22-17 lead.  The Blue Dragons won the first set 25-19.  The start of the second set was another close battle, and the two teams were tied 10-10.  The Quarriers went on an 8-1 at that point for a 18-11 lead.    The Blue Dragons responded with a 9-3 run to pull within a point 21-20, but Dell Rapids held for a 25-21 win in the second set.

The third set started the same as the first two.  The score was tied early at 7-7.  Garretson then went on an 8-1 run for a 15-8 lead.  The advantage grew to 10 points at 20-10.  The Blue Dragons won the third set 25-16.  The Quarriers grabbed momentum early in the fourth set with a 7-2 start.  Garretson slowly chipped away at the lead and eventually tied the score 18-18.  The Blue Dragons then held a 22-20 lead late, but Dell Rapids finished the fourth set on a 5-0 run for a 25-22 win to force a fifth set.

Garretson held the early lead by a point to start the fifth set.  Dell Rapids tied the set 5-5.  The Blue Dragons then went on a 3-0 run for an 8-5 lead, and that was enough of a lead to keep them in front the rest of the match.  The Quarriers were only able to pull within two points, 10-8, the rest of the way.  Garretson won the fifth set 15-10 to win the match.

Madelynn Henry finished with 29 kills.  Kylee Fiddelke had 10 kills, 16 digs, and three ace serves.  Sophi Randall ended the night with 54 set assists, 10 kills, and five blocks.  Alaina Wolff added 17 digs and nine set assists.  Lexi Ingalls had three ace serves.

Dell Rapids ends the season with an overall record of 19-10.
