Quarriers Win Two Five-Set Matches on Back-to-Back Nights

The Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team had two exciting matches on back-to-back nights.  Dell Rapids hosted the Baltic Bulldogs on Monday, August 29th and then the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies on Tuesday, August 30th.

Dell Rapids 3, Baltic 2

The Quarriers and Bulldogs played a close match all night long on Monday.  The first set went to Dell Rapids by a score of 25-18.  Baltic won the second set 25-17.  Dell Rapids looked as if they were going to take the advantage in the third set.  The Quarriers led 24-21, but Baltic scored five straight points to steal a 26-24 win for a 2-1 lead.

Dell Rapids was able to rebound and win the fourth set 25-19 to force a fifth set.  Dell Rapids got out to a quick 7-1 lead.  Baltic rallied and tied the score 11-11, but the Quarriers closed the match on a 4-1 run to take the win.

Maddie Henry finished with 23 kills.  Kylee Fiddelke had 11 kills, eight ace serves, and a block.  Sophi Randall finished with 40 set assists, 14 digs, two aces, and a block.  Alaina Wolff added 13 digs.

Dell Rapids 3, Elk Point-Jefferson 2

The Quarriers found themselves in a big hole on Tuesday against the the Huskies.  Elk Point-Jefferson took the first two sets by the same 25-22 score for a 2-0 set lead.

Dell Rapids regrouped and won the third set 25-18 after a nice run midway through the set.  That momentum carried into the fourth set as Dell Rapids built an 12-4 advantage.  The Huskies never got with more than three or four points the rest of the set, and Dell Rapids took the win 25-17 forcing a fifth set.

The Quarriers continued to enjoy the momentum and build a 10-3 lead in the fifth set and finished out the match with a 15-5 win to complete the comeback.

Henry finished with 16 kills.  Clara Justice and Lauryn Kloth both had 10 kills each.  Randall finished the night with 43 set assists, five ace serves, and three blocks.  Justice and Fiddelke both had two ace serves.  Woolff had a team-high 21 digs.  Lexi Ingalls finished with 15.  Justice also had two blocks.

Dell Rapids will host Sioux Falls Christian on Thursday, September 1st.
