Football Season Starts with Win for Quarriers

The Dell Rapids Quarrier started the 2022 season with a big road win on Friday, August 26th.  Dell Rapids traveled to Madison and took on the #1 ranked Bulldogs.  The Quarriers led the entire game in a 33-14 win.

Most of the first quarter was played as a scoreless tie, but the Quarriers broke through late in the quarter.  Jack Henry completed a 14-yard touchdown pass to Brayden Pankonen with 1:21 on the clock for a 6-0 lead. Dell Rapids extended the lead on a five-yard touchdown run by Pankonen with 2:52 to play in the second quarter.  Mason Stubbe scored the two-point conversion to make the score 14-0.  Madison responded with a quick drive to end the first half.  Ben Brooks connected with Bruce Galde on a seven-yard touchdown pass with just :15 left in the half.  The extra point was good, and Dell Rapids led 14-7 at halftime.

The Quarriers scored the only touchdown in the third quarter.  Stubbe had a five-yard run with 2:51 left in the quarter to extend the lead to 20-7.  The Bulldogs scored early in the fourth quarter.  Galde had a one-yard touchdown run with 10:23 left in the game.  Another good extra point cut the lead to 20-14.

Dell Rapids, however, responded late in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.  Stubbe scored on a 12-yard run with 4:43 to play to give the Quarriers a 26-14 lead.  Stubbe added another touchdown with 1:53 on the clock on a four-yard run.  Camden Justice made the extra point for a 33-14 score.

Dell Rapids finished with 308 yards of total offense, 79 passing yards and 229 rushing yards.  Madison had only 183 yards of total offense, 105 passing yards and 78 rushing yards.  Dell Rapids dominated the time of possession.  The Quarriers had the ball for 31:58, while Madison had the ball for 15:18.

Henry was 7-13 passing for 94 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.  Pankonen had four catches for 42 yards and a touchdown.  Braden Fersdahl had two catches for 22 yards, and Justice had a catch for 15 yards.  Stubbe had 19 carries for 94 yards and three touchdowns.  Quinn Carr finished with six carries for 36 yards.  Pankonen had six carries for 34 yards and a touchdown.

Aiden Geraets led the defense with 11 total tackles.  Stubbe had seven tackles.  Chase Jones added five tackles.  Cole Ruesink, Fersdahl, Treyse Eastman, Tad Tjaden, and Sutton Williams all had three tackles each.

Upcoming Game

The Quarriers will make a long trip west to play the Belle Fourche Broncs on Friday, September 2nd.
