West Central Girls and Boys Track Teams Both Finish Second in Dell Rapids

Both the girls and boys West Central Trojan track teams placed second at the Dell Rapids Invite on Monday, May 10th.  The girls team finished with 111 points.  The boys team finished with 110 points.

Averi Schmeichel placed first in the 100m hurdles at :15.36 and first in the 300m hurdles with a time of :45.60.  Sadie Berg had a second place finish in the 200m dash.  Jada VanOverbeke was second in the high jump.  Schmeichel also had a second place finish in the long jump.  The 4x100m relay team of VanOverbeke, Lily Sidel, Emma  Goehrig, and Rylee Haldeman placed second.  The 4x200m relay team of Goehring, Berg, Sidel, and Molli Thornton also had a second place finish.

Derek Eidsness won the high jump with an impressive jump of 6’5″.  The 4x200m relay team of Layton Johnson, Wyatt Nielsen, Mason Berens placed first with a time of 1:35.55.  The 4x800m relay team of Dylan Sherard, Ben Strunk, Jude Jarding, and Justin Schumacher was also first with a time of 8:40.14.  Mason Berens (100m dash), Wyatt Nielsen (200m dash), and Gunnar Cuka (long jump and triple jump) all had second place finishes.  The 4x400m relay team of Layton Johnson, Schumacher, Jarding, and Eidsness also had a second place finish.

West Central Golfers Win Madison Triangular

The West Central Trojan girls golf team won a triangular against Madison and Sioux Falls O’Gorman on Friday, May 7th at the Madison Country Club.

West Central finished with a team score of 198.  That was three shots better than Madison at 201.  O’Gorman finished with a team score of 224.

Jordyn Driscoll was also the top individual score at the meet.  She finished with a round of 44.  Morgan Driscoll was tied for fourth with a round of 49.  Dakotah Larson and Alaina Murphy both finished in a tie for seventh with a 51.  Emma Grocott and Alexa Borns both finished with a 52 tied for 11th.  Taylor Even was tied for 15th wiht a round of 57.  Payton Sorensen had a round of 59, and Lauren Prchal finished with a 63.

Trojan Girls Place 2nd, Boys 4th at Dan Barker Relays

The West Central Trojan track team ran in the Dan Barker Relays in Madison on Friday, May 7th.  The girls team finished second with a total of 134 points.  The boys team finished fourth out of seven teams with 84 points.

Averi Schmeichel had another big day finishing first in four events.  She won the 100m dash with a time of :13.02, won the 100m hurdles with a time of :15.20, won the long jump with a jump of 17’4.5″, and was part of the first place 4x400m relay team with Peyton Meadors, Melissa Anderson, and Sadie Berg that finished in a time of 4:21.17.  The 4x100m relay team of Rayna Goehring, Lily Sidel, Emma Goehring, and Molli Thornton won with a time of :51.88.  The 4x200m relay team of E. Goehring, Berg, Sidel, and Molly Anderson also placed first with a time of 1:50.35.

Gunnar Cuka won the boys long jump with a leap of 20’0.5″.  The 4x800m relay team of Dylan Sherard, Ben Strunk, Dylan Stromer, and Jude Jarding placed first with a time of 9:04.69.  The 4x100m relay team of Cuka, Owen Heath, Caleb Schulte, and Wyatt Nielsen finished second with a time of :47.43.

West Central Wins Close Game over Garretson

West Central scored just enough runs in the top of the first inning and survived six errors to get a 3-2 road win over Garretson on Thursday, May 7th.

West Central scored three runs on four straight singles in the top of the first inning.  Grafton Stroup had an RBI with his hit, and Noah Hohn drove home two with his hit.  Garretson scored one of their runs in the bottom of the second inning on an error.  The other run came in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI groundout.

Braden Herr and Stroup kept Garretson at bay all game long.  Herr pitched five innings giving up two runs, neither earned, on just three hits with two walks and four strikeouts.  Stroup pitched the final two innings without allowing a hit and struck out two batters.

Loren Jacobson had two hits in the game.  Hohn had a single with two RBIs.  Stroup had an RBI single.  Ryan Healy had a double, and Ben Sebert, Zach Madsen, and Adam Parsons all had singles in the game.

West Central will travel to Dell Rapids on Monday, May 10th.

Trojan Girls Golf Finishes Fourth in Dell Rapids

The West Central Trojan girls golf team finished fourth at the Dell Rapids Invite at Rocky Run Golf Course in Dell Rapids on Tuesday, May 4th.  The Trojans had a team score of 422.

Jordyn Driscoll had a fourth place finish individually with a round of 90.  Dakotah Larson placed 11th with a round of 97.  Kaylee Olson finished with a 115.  Emma Grocott had a 120, and Taylor Even finished with a round of 122.

West Central will have a triangular at the Madison Country Club on Friday, May 7th.

West Central Girls Track Places Fourth, Boys Fifth in Beresford

The West Central Trojan track team traveled to Beresford for the Beresford Lions Club track meet on Tuesday, May 4th.  The girls team had a fourth place finish with 82 points.  The boys team finished fifth with a total of 62 points.

Averi Schmeichel had three first-place finishes.  She won the 200m dash with a time of :26.55, won 100m hurdles with a time of :14.97, and won the long jump with a jump of 16’11”.  The 4x100m relay team of Jada VanOverbeke, Lily Sidel, Emma Goehring, and Sadie Berg placed first with a time of :51.57.  Sadie Berg was second in the 200m dash, and the 4x200m relay team of Goehring, Molly Anderson, Keighlor Nolz, and VanOverbeke also placed second.

Mason Berens was the 100m champion with a time of :11.47.  The sprint medley relay team of Layton Johnson, Berens, Derek Eidsness, and Justin Schumacher placed first with a time of 3:46.32.  Eidsness had a second place finish in the 200m dash.

West Central Track Team has Nine “Top 8” Finishes at Howard Wood

The West Central Trojan track team had several members participate in the Howard Wood Dakota Relays held over two days in Sioux Falls. The event was held on Friday, April 30th and Saturday, May 1st.

Averi Schmeichel had a great meet. She finished first in the long jump with a jump of 17’7.25″. Schmeichel finished second in the 100m hurdles, 300m hurdles and was part of the second place 4x200m relay team with Emma Goehring, Lily Sidel, and Sadie Berg. The 4x100m relay team of Jada VanOverebeke, Sidel, Goehring, and Rylee Haldeman had a fifth place finish.

The boys team had four top-eight finishers during the weekend.  The 4x200m relay team of Layton Johnson, Braden Diericks, Mason Berens, and Derek Eidsness placed third.  The 4x400m relay team of Johnson, Justin Schumacher, Jude Jarding, and Eidsness placed sixth.  The 4x800m relay team of Dylan Sherard, Jarding, Ben Strunk, and Schumacher had a seventh place finish.  Eidsness also placed eighth in the high jump.

West Central Track Travels to Canton for Terry Bong Invite

The West Central Trojan track team was one of 11 teams that competed in the Terry Bong Invitational track meet in Canton on Thursday, April 29th.

The girls 4x400m relay team (Peyton Meadors, Molly Anderson, Abbie Cain, Addison Meadors) placed third.  The sprint medley relay team (Shelby Sherard, Missy Anderson, Paige Pilker, Hadley Larson) placed fourth.  The 4x200m relay team (Missy Anderson, Molly Anderson, Lola Galpin, Stormee Klein) also placed fourth.  The 4x100m relay team (Stormee Klein, Molly Anderson, Lily Bornitz, Taya Brown) was fifth.  The 4x800m relay team (Hadley Larson, Kaylyn Kunz, Addison Meadors, Abbie Cain) was also fifth.  Stormee Klein (200m dash), Abbie Cain (1600m run), and Drew Caffrey (3200m run) all had fifth place finishes.  Elizabeth Johnson (3200m run) and Aysia Hall (shot put) placed sixth in their events.

The boys 4x100m relay team (Isaiah Colon, Braden Diericks, Justin Zirpel, Mason Berens) had a first place finish.  The 4x400m relay team (Layton Johnson, Justin Schumacher, Jude Jarding, Derek Eidsness) was also first.  Josh Livermore won the shot put event.  The 4x200m relay team (Layton Johnson, Braden Diericks, Mason Berens, Derek Eidsness) had a second place finish.  Derek Eidsness was second in the high jump.  The 4x800m relay team (Blake Stark, Erik Setten, Griffin Stallman, Gabe Gebhard) had a fourth place finish.  Gunnar Cuka was fourth in the triple jump.  The sprint medley relay team (Caleb Schulte, Owen Heath, Gunnar Cuka, Erik Setten) was fifth.  Isaiah Colon was fifth in long jump.  Wyatt Nielsen (200m dash) and Tommy Berg (110m hurdles) had sixth place finishes.  Ben Strunk (800m run), Griffin Stallman (3200m run), and Braden Traub-Jensen (shot put) all placed seventh.  Blake Stark was eighth in the 3200m run.

West Central Baseball Wins Fourth Straight

The West Central baseball team won their fourth straight game and third game in as many days.  West Central defeated McCook Central/Montrose 9-5 at home on Wednesday, April 28th.

McCook Central/Montrose scored a run in the top of the first inning after an error and a double, but West Central put three runs on the board in the bottom of the inning.  Ryan Healy led the inning with a double and later scored on an error.  Grafton Stroup hit an RBI triple, and Zach Madsen had an RBI single to give West Central a 3-1 lead.

McCook Central/Montrose was able to get a run back in the top of the third on three straight singles.  They tied the game in the top of the fourth inning by scoring a run on an error to make it a 3-3 game.

West Central took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Madsen hit a home run to center field to put West Central back in front 4-3.  West Central got three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Loren Jacobson hit an RBI triple and scored on an error.  Noah Hohn had an RBI double, and West Central lead 7-3 after five innings.  Ben Sebert had a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning to push the lead to 9-3.  McCook Central/Montrose got two runs in the top of the seventh.

Madsen had two hits, including a home run, with two RBIs.  Stroup had two hits, with a triple, and an RBI.  Jacobson also had two hits, with a triple, and an RBI.  Healy finished with two hits, one of those a double, with an RBI.  Hohn had a double with an RBI.  Sebert had a hit with two RBIs, and Jack Linnemann also had a hit.

Healy started the game on the mound pitching two innings giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits with two strikeouts.  Stroup got the win pitching five innings of relief giving up three runs, all unearned, on three hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.

West Central Girls Golf Fifth at Dakota Valley

West Central’s girls golf team placed fifth at the Dakota Valley Invite on Tuesday, April 27th.  The Dakota Valley Invite was the third meet the Trojans were able to attend this season.

Jordyn Driscoll finished in second place individually with a round of 79.  She finished just one shot behind tourney champion Maiya Muller (Beresford).  Kaylee Olson finished with a round of 101.  Alaina Murphy had a 109.  Emma Grocott finished with a 113.  Taylor Even had a round of 122.

The Trojans will host a triangular with Lennox and Beresford on Thursday, April 29th.
