The West Central baseball team won their fourth straight game and third game in as many days. West Central defeated McCook Central/Montrose 9-5 at home on Wednesday, April 28th.
McCook Central/Montrose scored a run in the top of the first inning after an error and a double, but West Central put three runs on the board in the bottom of the inning. Ryan Healy led the inning with a double and later scored on an error. Grafton Stroup hit an RBI triple, and Zach Madsen had an RBI single to give West Central a 3-1 lead.
McCook Central/Montrose was able to get a run back in the top of the third on three straight singles. They tied the game in the top of the fourth inning by scoring a run on an error to make it a 3-3 game.
West Central took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth inning. Madsen hit a home run to center field to put West Central back in front 4-3. West Central got three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Loren Jacobson hit an RBI triple and scored on an error. Noah Hohn had an RBI double, and West Central lead 7-3 after five innings. Ben Sebert had a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning to push the lead to 9-3. McCook Central/Montrose got two runs in the top of the seventh.
Madsen had two hits, including a home run, with two RBIs. Stroup had two hits, with a triple, and an RBI. Jacobson also had two hits, with a triple, and an RBI. Healy finished with two hits, one of those a double, with an RBI. Hohn had a double with an RBI. Sebert had a hit with two RBIs, and Jack Linnemann also had a hit.
Healy started the game on the mound pitching two innings giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits with two strikeouts. Stroup got the win pitching five innings of relief giving up three runs, all unearned, on three hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.
