Tri-Valley 16U Wins One of Three at I-29 League Tourney

The Tri-Valley 16U teener team played three games between Friday, June 11th and Saturday, June 12th in the I-29 League Tournament in Garretson.  Tri-Valley finished those three games with a record of 1-2.

Tri-Valley gave up four early runs to Garretson, and their rally fell short in the sixth inning as Garretson got a 5-4 win on Friday.

Garretson picked up a run in the bottom of the first.  Beau Keith drove home two runs with a single in the top of the third to give Tri-Valley a 2-1 lead.  Garretson scored three times in the bottom of the third to regain the lead, and then added another one in the bottom of the fifth to extend the lead to 5-2.  Everett Althoff had an RBI double, and Noah Haynes scored on an error to cut the lead to 5-4.  Tri-Valley had the tying run thrown out at home for the second out of the inning.  A strikeout ended the game with the tying run on third.

Keith had two hits with two RBIs.  Haynes, Kaden Egger, and Barrett Althoff all had two hits.  E. Althoff had a double and an RBI.  Cole Focken and Mason Hendrixson both had a single.  Tanner Van Asselt had an RBI.  Egger pitched four innings allowing four earned runs on seven hits with one walk and seven strikeouts.  Keith pitched one inning allowing an unearned run with one walk and two strikeouts.

Tri-Valley scored eight runs in the middle innings to earn a 9-4 win over the Tea Bolts in their first game on Saturday.

Keith scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the first for a 1-0 lead.  Tea got single runs in the top of the second and third for a 2-1 lead, but Tri-Valley got five runs in the bottom of the third.  Haynes had a two-run single, and Brendan Newman had a three-run triple for a 6-2 lead.  They would score three more runs in the bottom of the fourth.  Two runs scored on an error, and Keith scored on a passed ball as Tri-Valley closed out the game for the win.

Newman had a triple with three RBIs.  Hendrixson had two hits and two RBIs.  Haynes had a hit with two RBIs.  Holden Rise had two hits.  Lawson Loiseau and Aidan Heitkamp both had hits as well.  Haynes pitched all six innings allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits with one walk and one strikeout.

Tri-Valley fell to the Tea Gold 16U team in their final game of the day.  Tea scored five runs in the first two wins and finished with a 7-2 over Tri-Valley.

B. Althoff scored on a passed ball in the top of the fourth for Tri-Valley’s first run of the game.  Keith scored on an error in the top of the sixth as Tri-Valley was held to just three hits in the game.

B. Althoff, Rise, and Van Asselt had the three hits.  Hendrixson pitched 3 2/3 innings allowing seven runs, three earned, on eight hits with three walks and six strikeouts.  Keith pitched 1 1/3 innings allowing just one hit and one walk with two strikeouts.

West Central Royal 14U Holds off Tri-Valley Maroon 14U

The West Central Royal 14U teener team held off a late rally by Tri-Valley Maroon 14U to get a 10-8 win on Thursday, June 10th.

Tri-Valley scored the first three runs of the game.  Carter Sorenson stole home and Cody Lofswold scored on a ground ball in the top of the second.  Tri-Valley added one more run in the top of the third when Brody Dybvig scored on an RBI ground ball by Aiden Bunde.

West Central tied the game in the bottom of the third.  Landen Holewa had an RBI single, Lando Whiting had a steal of home, and Holewa later scored on an error to make the score 3-3.  West Central took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Quincy Stephens had an RBI single, and Cody Opitz had an RBI ground out to give West Central the 5-3 lead.  Four more runs scored in the bottom of the fifth inning when Whiting and Holewa scored on an error, CJ DenBoer scored on a passed ball, and Preston Hostetler scored on an error.  West Central added their 10th run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Anthony Lanham scored on a passed ball.

Tri-Valley made a furious push in the top of the seventh inning.  Austin Puetz scored on a ground out by Cyrus Kirstein, which was the second out of the inning.  Landon Jensen scored on a passed ball.  Bunde and Sorenson both drew bases loaded walks to make the score 10-7.  Kaiden Bernards had an RBI single, but West Central was able to get the final out and hang on for the win.

Dybvig had a triple in the game for Tri-Valley.  Tristen Bunde and Sorenson both had a double, and Bernards had a hit.  A. Bunde had two RBIs.  Sorenson, Bernards, Hunter Foster, and Kirstein all had one RBI.  Sorenson pitched three innings allowing three runs, two earned, on two hits with two walks and four strikeouts.  Dybvig pitched two innings allowing six runs, two earned, on three hits with a walk and two strikeouts.  Landon Asche pitched an inning allowing one run, unearned, on a hit with two strikeouts.

Holewa had two hits for West Central with an RBI.  Stephens had a hit and an RBI.  Whiting, Cooper Mulder, and Lanham all had singles.   Opitz also had an RBI.   Stephens pitched six innings allowing three runs, one earned, on three hits with one walk and six strikeouts.  Whiting pitched 2/3 of an inning allowing five earned runs on six walks.  Opitz pitched 1/3 of an inning allowing a hit.

Flandreau Records Win over Tri-Valley White 14U

Tri-Valley White 14U held a short-lived 1-0 lead against Flandreau on Wednesday, June 9th.  Tri-Valley led 1-0 after their half of the first inning, but Flandreau then scored 14 straight runs to get the 14-1 win.

Tri-Valley’s run was scored on back-to-back two-out singles.  Gage Egger hit the first single and then stole second.  Landon Schenkel brought home Egger on a single to give Tri-Valley their 1-0 lead.  They were then held to just two more hits the rest of the game, both in the second inning.  Brenner Struiksma and Levi Kretzshmar both had two-out singles in the inning, but were unable to score.

Struiksma pitched one inning allowing four runs, one earned, on two hits with one walk and one strikeout.  Egger pitched an inning as well allowing four runs, two earned, on three hits with a walk and strikeout.  Denton Bicknase pitched 2/3 of an inning allowing five runs on four hits and three walks.  Benjamin Myhre pitched 1 1/3 innings allowing an earned run on a hit with one walk and one strikeout.  Schenkel pitched an inning without giving up a hit.

West Central Defeats Tri-Valley in 16U Action

The West Central and Tri-Valley 16U teams did battle in Humboldt on Monday, June 7th.  West Central scored in every inning and got the 14-1 win in five-innings.

Mason Berens scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the first to give West Central a 1-0 lead.  Duece Sherard had a two run single in the bottom of the second, and West Central increased the lead to 3-0.

Cole Focken got Tri-Valley on the board with an RBI single in the top of the third inning to cut the lead to 3-1.  West Central scored six times in the bottom of the inning.  Braydon Odegaard scored on an error, Gage Nelson drew a bases loaded walk, Derek Renken had an RBI single, Nelson then scored on a wild pitch, and Justin Zirpel hit a sacrifice fly giving West Central a 9-1 lead.

West Central added five more runs in the bottom of the fourth.  Camden Mc Donald had a sacrifice fly, Renken had an RBI single, Sherard had an RBI double, and Zirpel had a two-run single.

Focken finished with a hit and an RBI for Tri-Valley.  Tanner Van Asselt and Everett Althoff also had hits in the game.  Beau Keith pitched two innings giving up seven runs, six earned, on four hits with five walks and five strikeouts.  Holden Rise pitched 1 1/3 innings allowing five runs, four earned, on two hits with three walks.  Mason Hendrixson pitched 2/3 of an inning allowing two earned runs on three hits.

Sherard had two hits, one double, and three RBIs.  Renken had two hits and two RBIs.  Dylan Stromer had two hits.  Zirpel had one hit and three RBIs.  Nelson had a hit and RBI.  Cade Vander Woude had a hit, and Mc Donald had an RBI.  Andrew Zimmer pitched three innings allowing a run, which was unearned, on a hit with two walks and five strikeouts.  Renken pitched two innings allowing two hits and struck out one.

Tri-Valley White 14U Drops Two Games at League Tournament

The Tri-Valley White 14U team played in two games in Flandreau at the I-29 League Tournament.  They played one game on Friday, June 4th, and one game on Saturday, June 5th.

Tri-Valley faced Tea Navy in the game on Friday.  Tea scored eight runs in the first two innings and eventually held on for the 10-4 victory.

Gage Egger had two hits and an RBI.  Benjamin Myhre had a double and an RBI.  Grant Schlueter had a hit and an RBI.  Landon Schenkel had a triple, Parker Hemme had a double, and Levi Kretzschmar had a hit.  Denton Bicknase pitched two innings allowing eight runs, two earned, on four hits with two walks.  Egger pitched three innings allowing two runs, both unearned, on two hits with two walks and a strikeout.

Tri-Valley then played Madison Gold, but fell by a score of 11-6.  Madison scored a run in the first inning and the second inning for a 2-0 lead.  Egger had an RBI single in the top of the third inning to cut the lead in half, but Madison scored four more runs in the bottom of the third for a 6-1.

Tri-Valley put together a rally in the top of the fourth inning.  Dylan Christensen and Matthew Cypher both had an RBI single.  Egger drove home two with a single, and Myhre was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring home another run as Tri-Valley scored five times to tie the game 6-6.  Madison, however, scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth and then held Tri-Valley scoreless in the fifth for the 11-6 win.

Egger had two hits and three RBIs in the game.  Christensen had a hit and an RBI.  Cypher had a hit with an RBI as well.  Myhre had an RBI.  Kretzschmar had a double.  Schlueter had a hit.

Myhre pitched three innings giving up six runs, three earned, on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts.  Christensen pitched 1/3 of an inning allowing five runs on three hits with two walks.  Schenkel pitched 2/3 of an inning allowing a hit with one strikeout.

Tri-Valley 16U Falls in Late Innings to Baltic

The Tri-Valley 16U team led 6-2 after five innings of play, but Baltic scored four runs in the top of the sixth to tie the game, and then eight in the top of the seventh to get a 14-6 win over Tri-Valley on Thursday, June 3rd.

After two outs in the bottom of the first inning, Tri-Valley scored two runs.  Beau Keith scored on a bases-loaded walk to Barrett Althoff, and then Mason Hendrixson stole home for a 2-0 lead.  Baltic scored a single run in the top of the fourth inning, but Kaden Egger pushed the Tri-Valley lead to 4-1 after a two-run double in the bottom of the inning.  Baltic again cut the lead in half with a run in the top of the fifth inning, however, Tri-Valley got two more runs when Lawson Loiseau and Althoff scored on wild pitches to give Tri-Valley a 6-2 lead after five innings.

Baltic then took advantage of some Tri-Valley miscues in the top of the sixth inning.  Baltic scored four times on one hit as Tri-Valley had four errors and two walks in the inning.  Baltic then scored eight times on three hits in the top of the seventh taking advantage of seven walks.

Egger finished with a double and two RBIs.  Althoff had a hit and an RBI.  Loiseau had a double.  Keith, Hendrixson, and Tanner Van Asselt all had a single in the game.  Egger pitched the first five innings giving up two runs, both earned, on two hits with four walks and four strikeouts.  Cole Focken pitched 1 1/3 innings allowing six runs, two earned, on two hits with two walks.  Keith pitched 1/3 of an inning allowing six runs, five earned, on two hits with five walks.  Hendrixson pitched 1/3 of an inning and gave up one walk.

Season Ends at State for Tri-Valley Track Teams

The Tri-Valley Mustang track team ended their 2021 season at the state meet at Lyle Hare Stadium in Spearfish on Friday, May 28th and Saturday, May 29th.

The boys team finished with eight total points.  The 4x100m relay team of Niyongabo Yohana, Levi Hanson, Dustin Sees, and Jaden Siemonsma placed fourth.  The 4x200m relay team of Sees, Hanson, Preston Wieman, and Siemonsma had an eighth place finish.  Michael Beyer had an eighth place finish in the 300m hurdles.  Alex Andresen finished eighth in the shot put.

Tri-Valley Baseball Season Ends at Regions

The Tri-Valley high school baseball season came to an end at the Region 3B tournament in Dell Rapids on Tuesday, May 25th.  Tri-Valley entered the tournament as the #8 seed and played #1 Dell Rapids in the opening game.

Tri-Valley was only able to get two hits in the game, and Dell Rapids scored in every inning except the second inning as Dell Rapids ended the Tri-Valley season with a 10-0 victory.

The first hit of the game for Tri-Valley came off the bat of Tyler Groenwold in the top of the third inning.  Logan Colwill had the other hit of the game in the fourth inning.  Tri-Valley was only able to get a runner to third base twice in the game.

Nate Hargreaves pitched the first 3 2/3 innings giving up five runs, four earned, on four hits with six walks and four strikeouts.  Beau Keith pitched 1 1/3 innings allowing one earned run on a hit with two walks and two strikeouts.  Colwill pitched 2/3 of an inning allowing four runs, one earned, on one with with four walks and two strikeouts before Dell Rapids ended the game in the bottom of the sixth inning on the 10-run rule.

Tri-Valley finished their season with 2-7 record in Region 3B regular season games and a 2-10 overall record against Class B teams.

Mustang Track Teams Finish in Top Three at Region Meet

The Tri-Valley Mustang track team hosted the Region 3A track meet on Thursday, May 20th.  The boys team finished second with 144 total points.  The girls team finished third with a total of 94 points.

Ellie Pearson placed first in the discus with a throw of 97’2″.  Jessica Masgai won the triple jump with a jump of 34’8.5″.  Blayne Gacke finished second in the discus.  Madelyn Wenzel had a third place finish in the 100m dash.  The 4x200m relay team of Wenzel, Masgai, Lauren Grinde, and Paige Jewett also had a third place finish.

Alex Andresen was the region champ in the shot put with a throw of 49’11.5″.  Connor Christensen had a second place finish in the discus.  Michael Beyer was second in the 110m hurdles.  The 4x100m relay team of Niyongabo Yohana, Levi Hanson, Dustin Sees, and Justin Siemonsma placed second.  The 4x400m relay team of Sees, Owen Snethen, Andresen, and Nathan Hargreaves also had a second place finish.

Mustang Track Competes at Dak-12 Meet

MThe Tri-Valley Mustang track team was in Dell Rapids on Thursday, May 13th for the Dak-12 Conference meet.  The Boys team finished fourth with a 78 points.  The girls team finished 11th with 18 points.

Jessica Masgai placed second in the triple jump with a jump of 33’00”.  The 4x100m relay team of Madelyn Wenzel, Masgai, Lauren Grinde, and Paige Jewett, as well as the 4x200m relay team of Wenzel, Masgai, Grinde, and Jewett both finished sixth.

The boys 4x400m relay team of Dustin Sees, Owen Snethen, Alex Andresen, and Nate Hargreaves had a second place finish.  Hargreaves had a third place finish in the 400m run.  Michael Beyer placed third in the 110m hurdles.  Andresen was third in the shot put, and the 4x100m relay team of Niyongabo Yohana, Levi Hanson, Sees, and Justin Siemonsma also placed third.
