Quarrier Win Streak Comes to End

DellRapidsFootballLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarriers had their four-game winning streak come to an end in Hartford on Friday, October 11th.  The West Central Trojans defeated the Quarriers 35-7.  West Central held a 14-0 lead after the first quarter.  They extended the lead to 21-0 at halftime.  Dell Rapids cut the lead to 21-7 at the end of the third quarter, but the Trojans scored the final two touchdowns of the game.

The Trojans got on the board with 6:00 to go in the first quarter on a one-yard touchdown run by Jace Hanisch.  The second touchdown came on a 40-yard run by Cole Tirrel with 3:12 to go in the first.  West Central’s next score was with 8:28 to go in the second quarter on a two-yard run by Cody Miller.

Dell Rapids scored first in the second half with :33 to go in the third quarter.  Tanner Solberg threw a six-yard touchdown pass to Riley Schmidt.  But Miller would score two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter for West Central on runs of six yards and two yards respectively.

Dell Rapids was held to just 116 total yards in the game, 79 rushing and 37 passing.  West Central had 300 total yards, 288 rushing and 12 passing.  Schmidt had 11 carries for only 40 yards in the game.  Brett Nichols had nine carries for 16 yards.  Tanner Solberg finished 2-5 for 37 yards and the touchdown.  Zach Schroeder had a catch for 37 yards.

Zach White led the Quarrier defense with 7.5 tackles in the game, including one for a loss.  Cody Nielsen had seven tackles, Jonathan DeNoon ended the game with six tackles, and Kahler Berven had 5.5 tackles.

The Quarriers fall to 4-2 on the year.  Dell Rapids will host the Tri-Valley Mustangs in their final home game of the year on Friday, October 18th.  The game will be webcast on Big Sioux Media.

Cardinals Improve to 5-1

DellRapidsStMaryFootballThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals defeated the Estelline Redmen 48-14 on Friday, October 11th, in Dell Rapids.  The Cardinals held Estelline to just 90 yards of total offense, 14 rushing yards and 76 passing yards, in the game.  Meanwhile, Dell Rapids St Mary racked up 358 yards of total offense, 311 rushing and 47 passing.

Josh Brown once again found the endzone multiple times.  He finished with 181 yards on 17 carries for three touchdowns.  Ben Bunkers carried the ball 14 times for 94 yards and two touchdowns.  Wes Heinricy threw a couple of touchdowns in the game as well.  He finished 2-4 passing for 47 yards and two touchdowns.  Jared Scholten had a touchdown catch of 24 yards, and Bunkers had a touchdown catch of 23 yards.

Jonah Longville led the defense with seven tackles and one sack.  Leon Maxwell had six tackles in the game.  Noah Fiegen had six tackles and a sack.  Brown added 5.5 tackles for the Cardinals.

Head coach Ross Flemmer said, “We played hard tonight. We have to work on playing four quarters of football to the best of our abilities, but we played hard.   We need to work out a few things and continue to improve this week to get ready for a tough Arlington team.”

Dell Rapids St Mary improves to 5-1 on the year.  The Cardinals will host the Arlington Cardinals in the final home game of the year on Friday, October 18th.

Quarriers Fall to Vermillion

Quarrier LogoThe Vermillion Tanagers defeated the Dell Rapids Quarriers in volleyball action on Tuesday, October 8th, in Vermillion 3-0 by scores of 25-14, 25-14, 25-21.

Jordan Stone led the offense with five kills on the night.  Sarah Haak had six set assists.  Haak also had three aces in the match.  Shelby Wrage and Maria Nagelhout added two aces apiece.  Defensively for the Quarriers, Karlie Leighton finished with four digs.  Emily Boyle and Wrage each had three digs.  Madie Vietor had two blocks on the night.

Dell Rapids falls to 1-15 on the year.  Dell Rapids will travel to Sioux Falls to take on the Sioux Falls Christian Chargers on Thursday, October 17th, for their next match.

JV Results

The JV team defeated Vermillion by scores of 25-16, 25-12.  Megan Miles had seven kills for Dell Rapids.  Brittnay Welbig had 13 set assists.  Shelby Wrage and Welbig each had three aces.  Brittany Kludt finished with two blocks for the Quarriers, while Bailey Munk finished with seven digs.

C Team Results

The C team lost to Vermillion by scores of 25-12, 25-15.  Ashley Lorenzen had three kills.  Chloe Solberg finished with three set assists on the night.  Alexis Krantz had three aces.  Defensively for Dell Rapids, Kenzie Gullickson had nine digs.

Cardinals Pick up 8th Win of Year

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals volleyball team picked up their eighth win of the year by defeating the Freeman Flyers 25-20, 25-11, 27-25 on Monday, October 7th.

Freeman jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first game.  The Cardinals countered with a 5-0 run to take the lead.  Freeman again had another short lead at 8-5, but St Mary took control of game one from that point onwards.  The Cardinals slowly increased their lead to 22-15.  Freeman closed the game to 22-20, but St Mary ended the game on a 3-0 run.  The two teams traded early points in the second game.  With the game tied at 3-3, the Cardinals reeled off eight straight points to go ahead 11-3.  The Flyers were able to get within three points at 11-8, but that was as close as they would get.  The Cardinals went on a 11-0 run to go ahead 22-8 before closing the game out at 25-11.  In the final game, the teams battled tough all game long.  Neither team was ahead by more than a couple of points, and the game was tied 13-13.  St Mary was able to grab a 21-17 lead, but Freeman scored six points in a row to go ahead 23-21.  St Mary tied the game at 23-23, and then again at 25-25.  The Cardinals were able to get the final two points for the match win.

Dell Rapids St Mary improves to 8-11 on the year.  The Cardinals will host Estelline on Thursday, October 10th.

Quarriers Win State A Golf Title!

Quarrier LogoThe Dell Rapids Quarriers boys golf team is the 2013 Class A State Champions!  The team finished with a two-day total of 662.  Parkston finished second with a total of 663.  Aberdeen Roncalli finished third with a total of 670, Madison was fourth at 671, and West Central finished fifth at 681.  Parkston had the best round of the second day with a 332.  Dell Rapids had a 339 for the day.

Adam Karst finished second individually for the tournament, with a tw0-day total of 151.  Michael Duch of Aberdeen Roncalli held on to his first day lead to win the individual title with a total of 148.  Zach Schroeder finished tied for 14th at 167.  Devon Weber finished with a total of 171, Ty Hoglund had a 173 for the tournament, and Mason Schmidt finished the state tournament with a 193.

The Quarriers will have a welcome home at 6:30 p.m. at Rocky Run Golf Course in Dell Rapids.

Quarrier Golfers Lead after First Day of State Tournament

Quarrier LogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier boys golf team has a five-stroke lead after the first date of the Class A State Tournament in Hartford.  Dell Rapids currently has a team score of 323.  Aberdeen Roncalli and Madison are tied for second with 328.  Parkston is in fourth at 331, with Dakota Valley in fifth place at 340.

Adam Karst fired a +1 round of 73 on the day, which puts him in second place just one stroke behind the leader Michael Duch of Aberdeen Roncalli for the individual title.  Zach Schroeder is currently tied for sixth with a first-day round of 80.  Ty Hoglund finished the day with an 84, Deven Weber shot an 86, and Mason Schmidt had a 98.

The Quarriers will finish the tw0-day State Tournament in Hartford on Tuesday, October 8th.

Quarriers Win Big in Lennox

DellRapidsFootballLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier football team scored 33 unanswered points on their way to a 41-7 win over the Lennox Orioles on Friday, October 4th, in Lennox.  Dell Rapids led 14-0 after the first quarter, 19-o at halftime, and 33-0 at the end of the third quarter.

The Quarriers racked up 402 yards of total offense while holding the Orioles to just 180 yards.  390 of those 402 yards were rushing yards for Dell Rapids.  Brett Nichols had 11 carries for 122 yards and two touchdowns.  Riley Schmidt had seven carries for 84 yards, and Jacob Huewe had five carries for 70 yards and a touchdown.  Johnathan DeNoon, Cody Nielsen, and Tanner Solberg each had a rushing touchdown in the game as well.

Brock Reinhiller led the defense with five tackles in the game.  Jacob Faux had four tackles, and Zach White finished with 3.5 tackles, 1.5 of those for a loss.

The Quarriers improve to 4-1 on the year.  Dell Rapids will travel to Hartford to take on the West Central Trojans on Friday, October 11th.  The game will be webcast on Big Sioux Media.

Dell Rapids St Mary Loses Close Game to Deubrook

DellRapidsStMaryFootballThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals lost a close and exciting game to the Deubrook Dolphins in White on Friday, October 4th, by a score of 40-38.  The battle of two of the top teams in class 9B and 9AA had a 40-minute weather delay midway through the third quarter.

Deubrook scored early on a 10-yard touchdown run by Riley Hanson with 10:47 in the first quarter to give the Dolphins a quick 6-0 lead.  The Cardinals answered right back on a 35-yard touchdown run by Josh Brown to tie the game at 6-6 with 9:32 to go in the first quarter.  Deubrook picked up another touchdown on a 67-yard run by Hanson to go ahead 14-6 at the 7:03 mark.  But Dell Rapids St Mary would tie the game with 3:07 to go in the first on a 31-yard touchdown run by Brown.  The game was tied 14-14 at the end of the first quarter.

The Dolphins scored the only touchdown of the second quarter for either team on a 5-yard pass play from Dustin Trooien to Quinn Peterson.  The extra point gave Deubrook a 21-14 lead going into halftime.

Dell Rapids St Mary struck first on a 36-yard touchdown run by Brown at the 8:19 mark of the third quarter.  The 2-point conversion was no good, and the Dolphins lead 21-20.  With 6:07 to go in the third, the game was delayed.  When play resumed, Deubrook scored with 3:17 left in the quarter on another Hanson touchdown run, this time for 77 yards.  The extra point was no good, and the Dolphins had a 27-20 lead after the third quarter.

On the first play of the fourth quarter, West Heinricy hit Ben Bunkers with a 21-yard touchdown pass.   Again, St Mary could not convert on the 2-point conversion, and again trailed by one at 27-26.  Deubrook would extend the lead again on Hanson’s 40 yard touchdown run, his fourth of the game, at the 9:35 mark.  Deubrook’s extra point attempt was no good, and the Dolphins lead 33-26.  Dell Rapids St Mary would score about four minutes later on a 5-yard touchdown run by Jacob Glazier.  The 2-point conversion failed yet again, and the Cardinals were within one point at 33-32.  With 4:25 in the game, Hanson found the end zone for the fifth time on a 5-yard touchdown run.  The extra point was good, and that gave Deubrook a 40-32 lead.  Dell Rapids St Mary would score one more touchdown with 1:08 to go on a 13-yard touchdown run by Bunkers.  But once again, the 2-point conversion failed, and the Cardinals trailed by two points at 40-38.  The onside kick attempted went out of bounds, and Deubrook ran out the clock for the win.

Brown had 28 carries for 200 yards and three touchdowns.  Bunkers had 17 carries for 126 yards and a touchdown.  Heinricy went 3-6 passing for 45 yards and a touchdown.  Defensively for the Cardinals, Christian Schnieders had 6.5 tackles and one forced fumble.  Bunkers had five tackles and a fumble recovery.  Brown had 5.5 tackles and a fumble recovery.  Jared Scholten finished the game with 4.5 tackles.

Head coach Ross Flemmer said, “The kids played hard, they kept fighting back and worked hard the whole game.  Our offensive line did an outstanding job of opening holes for our backs.  Defensively we had some trouble bottling up their running game, but came up big on several 3rd and 4th downs and got some turnovers from them. I was very proud of how our kids handled themselves in the face of adversity.”

Dell Rapids St Mary falls to 4-1 on the year.  The Cardinals will host Estelline on Friday, October 11th.

Quarrier Golfers Finish 2nd at Regions and Advance to State

Quarrier LogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier boys golf team finished second at the Region 1A tournament held at Lee Park in Aberdeen on Monday, September 30th.  The Qurriers finished at 334 as a team, four strokes behind Region 1A champions Madison.  Aberdeen Roncalli finished third with a team score of 340.  All three of these teams will advance to the state tournament.

Adam Karst finished third individually with a round of 80.  Ty Hoglund shot a round of 84 for eighth place.  Zach Schroeder had a round of 85 for ninth place, and Devon Weber also finished with a round of 85 for tenth place.  Mason Schmidt fired a round of 95 to finish inside the top 25.

Dell Rapids will now play in the State Tournament held at Central Valley Golf Club in Hartford on Monday, October 7th, through Tuesday, October 8th.

Quarriers Win Defensive Battle on Homecoming

DellRapidsFootballLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarriers defeated the Dakota Valley Panthers 12-7 on Homecoming on Friday, September 27th.  This Homecoming game had just about everything, including a defensive touchdown, two touchdowns called back because of penalties, and five total turnovers on downs.

Dakota Valley scored first with 3:06 to go in the first quarter on an interception by Trevor McCabe returned 48 yards for a touchdown.  The Quarriers got on the board with 7:27 to go in the second quarter on a 2-yard touchdown run by Cody Nielsen.  The Panthers held a 7-6 lead at halftime.  Dell Rapids scored on the first play of the third quarter on a 60-yard pass from Tanner Solberg to Riley Schmidt.  That gave Dell Rapids the 12-7 lead.  Dakota Valley threatened to take the lead late in the 4th quarter as they had the ball on the Dell Rapids 13-yard line with just minutes to play.  But the Quarrier defense held strong and sacked Isaac Faldmo on a fourth down play to give the ball back to the Quarriers.  Dell Rapids was able to take a knee and run out the clock for the win.

Dell Rapids had a total of 257 yards, 189 rushing and 68 passing.  The Panthers had 198 total yards, 23 rushing and 175 passing.  Brett Nichols had nine carries for 111 yards.  Nielsen had 11 carries for 36 yards and the touchdown.  Riley Schmidt had 10 carries for 31 yards.  Tanner Solberg was 2-7 passing for 68 yards with one touchdown and one interception.  Schmidt had both catches for 68 yards and the touchdown.

Zach White led the defense for the Quarriers with 9.5 tackles.  He had 2.5 sacks along with five tackles for loss.  Andrew Wiebenga and Matthew DeNoon each had five tackles apiece in the game.  Nielsen finished with five total tackles, and Kahler Berver had four tackles.

Dell Rapids improves to 3-1 on the year.  The Quarriers will travel to Lennox to take on the Orioles on Friday, October 4th.
