St Mary Wins Homecoming Game

DellRapidsStMaryFootballThe Dell Rapids St. Mary Cardinals defeated the Colman/Egan Hawks on Friday, September 26th, on Homecoming night by a score of 60-6.  The Cardinals racked up 342 total yards, 272 of those rushing, while holding the Hawks to just 45 total yards, 24 rushing and 21 passing.

Jacob Glazier led the way for Dell Rapids St Mary with eight carries for 108 yards and a touchdown.  Josh Brown had four carries for 98 yards and three touchdowns.  Ben Bunkers also had four carries for 37 yards and a touchdown.  Christian Schnieders carried the ball four times for 21 yards and a touchdown.  Wes Heinricy was 1-1 passing for 35 yards…that pass completed to Brown for a touchdown.  Bunkers also had a 26-yard punt return for a touchdown.

Defensively for the Cardinals, Jared Scholten had eight tackles and one interception.  Schnieders had 7.5 tackles and a fumble recovery, and Leon Maxwell finished the game with 10 tackles and two sacks.

Head coach Ross Flemmer said, “The kids played hard.  They got after it right away.  We had a few lulls, but came back strong.

Dell Rapids St Mary improves to 4-0 on the year.  The Cardinals will travel to White on Friday, October 4th, to take on Deubrook.  The game will be broadcast on Big Sioux Media.

Colman/Egan Wins Exciting Match Over St Mary

DRSM LogoThe Colman/Egan Hawks defeated the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals in volleyball action on Thursday, September 26th, by scores of 25-22, 15-25, 25-14, 27-25.  Game one was back and forth through much of the game.  Neither team had a lead bigger than three points, and the game was tied at 19-19.  The Hawks picked up three points to push the lead to 22-19 on the way to the win.  The first part of game two again started back and forth.  With the game tied at 6-6, Dell Rapids St Mary ran off eight straight points for a 14-6 lead.  Colman/Egan closed the gap at 18-14, but the Cardinals ended the second game on a 7-1 run for the win.  Game three was also tied at 6-6, but this time the Hawks took the momentum first on an 11-4 run to take the lead at 17-10, and then they finished off the third game on an 8-4 run for the win.  The fourth game had just about everything.  The two teams were tied at 5-5 before the Cardinals pushed the lead to 9-6.  Dell Rapids St Mary also lead by a score of 11-9, but Colman/Egan rallied for eight straight points for a 17-11 lead.  Dell Rapids St Mary would not go away quietly as the Cardinals kept chipping away at the lead.  The Cardinals pulled within two points at 19-21, and eventually tied the game at 24-24.  The game was again tied at 25-25 before the Hawks picked up the final two points for the match win.

Dell Rapids St Mary falls to 4-8 on the year.  The Cardinals will play in a tournament in Elkton on Saturday, September 28th.

Dell Rapids Hosts Cross Country Meet

Rocky Run Golf Course hosted the Dell Rapids Cross Country Meet on Wednesday, September 25th.  Garretson won the girls event with a team score of 39.  Mt. Vernon/Plankington finished second with a team score of 58.  Dell Rapids finished third with a score of 67.  Garretson also won the boys event with a team score of 36.  Elkton-Lake Benton finished second with a score of 43, Dell Rapids St Mary was third with 56 points, Fladreau had 65 points, Sioux Falls Christian was fifth with 73 points, and Dell Rapids finished sixth with 76 points.

Garretson Defeats Dell Rapids in Volleyball Action

Quarrier LogoThe Garretson Blue Dragons defeated the Dell Rapids Quarriers in volleyball action on Tuesday, September 24th, in straight sets by scores of 25-16, 25-19, 25-21.  The first game was back and forth to start as both teams traded points until the game was tied at 6-6.  It was at that point Garretson went on a 6-0 run to take the lead 12-6.  Garretson maintained at least a 6-point advantage the rest of the way for the first game win.  In the second game, both teams again traded points as the two teams went back and forth through the middle of the game.  With the game tied 14-14, Garretson pushed ahead at 18-15.  Dell Rapids pulled within two points at 21-19, but the Blue Dragons finished out game two with four straight points.  Dell Rapids looked as if they were going to extend the match to a least a fourth game as they jumped out to an early 8-2 lead.  The Quarriers extended the lead to 16-8, but Garretson came back strong by going on a 9-1 run to tie the game up at 17-17.  The game was again tied at 19-19 before the Blue Dragons extended the lead to 24-20 before winning the third and final game of the night.

Madie Vietor led the team with seven kills on the night.  Jordan Stone had six kills, and Emily Boyle finished with five kills.  Maria Nagelhout had nine set assists.  Nagelhout also had two aces.  Sarah Haak also finished the night with two aces.  Defensively for the Quarriers, Cheyenne Spielmann had 12 digs.  Stone led the team with three blocks.

The next match for Dell Rapids will be Thursday, September 26th, as the Quarriers travel to Flandreau to take on the Flyers.

The JV Team defeated Garretson 25-21 and 25-17.  The C Team also beat the Blue Dragons 25-11 and 25-15.

Quarrier Golfers 3rd at Conference Tournament

Quarrier LogoThe Dell Rapids Quarriers boys golf team finished third at the Dakota 12 Conference Tournament Monday, September 23rd, in Hartford.  West Central finished first followed by Dakota Valley.  The Quarriers finished with a team score of 336, 11 strokes behind the Trojans.  Adam Karst fired the best round for Dell Rapids, shooting an 81 on the day.  Zach Schroeder had an 83, Ty Hoglund shot an 85, and Devon Weber and Josh Parrott both finished with a round of 87.  Mason Schmidt shot an 89.

The Quarriers will next play in the Region Tournament at Lee Park in Aberdeen on Monday, September 30th.

Quarriers Win Big in Milbank

DellRapidsFootballLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarriers football team scored 40 of their 46 points in the first quarter in their 46-7 win over the Milbank Bulldogs on Friday, September 20th, in Milbank.  The Quarriers scored two times within the first minute of the game, and they were in complete control from that point.  Brett Nichols scored three of the six touchdowns in the first quarter for Dell Rapids as the Quarriers led 40-0 after the first quarter.  Milbank picked up a touchdown with 3:03 remaining in the second quarter to make the halftime score 40-7.  Dell Rapids scored the last touchdown of the game with :33 to go in the third quarter for the win.

Dell Rapids had 378 yards of total offense, 346 on the ground and 32 through the air.  Milbank managed only 113 yards of total offense, 64 on the ground and 49 through the air.  Cody Nielsen had four carries for 65 yards.  Jacob Faux had six carries for 63 yards.  Jacob Huewe added 60 yards on three carries and a touchdown.  Nichols had 55 yards on four carries, three of those for touchdowns.  Riley Schmidt had four carries for 42 yards and a touchdown.  Jonathan DeNoon also had a rushing touchdown for Dell Rapids.  Jace Nelson was 1-1 passing for 32 yards.  The lone catch made by Dell Rapids was made by Riley Jurgensen.

Defensively for Dell Rapids, Ben Gillogly and Matt Boever each had five tackles.  Keegan Hemmenway had 4.5 tackles.  Hemmenway, Nielsen, and Huewe each had a fumble recovery in the ball game.

Dell Rapids improves to 2-1 on the year.  The Quarriers will host Dakota Valley on Friday, September 27th, for Homecoming.  The game will be webcast on Big Sioux Media.

Cardinals Move to 3-0

DellRapidsStMaryFootballThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals football team moved to 3-0 with a 58-14 win over Oldham-Ramona-Rutland in Rutland on Friday, September 20th.  Dell Rapids St Mary out-gained the Raiders 406 yards to 143 yards.  The Cardinals had 289 yards on the ground and 117 passing yards.

Ben Bunkers went 5-7 passing for 84 yards.  Casey Hansen was 2-2 for 38 yards, and Wes Heinricy was 1-1 for 23 yards passing.  Josh Brown led the rushing attacking with 108 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries.  Bunkers had seven carries for 83 yards and two touchdowns.  Mitch Brown had 33 yards and one touchdown on six carries.  Sam Schwebach, Garret Frost, and Christian Schnieders all had rushing touchdowns in the game as well.  Seven different Cardinal receivers had a catch in the ball game.  Jared Scholten had five tackles for St Mary.  Hansen had 3.5 tackles and an interception.  Leon Maxwell also had 3.5 tackles and one sack in the game.

Head coach Ross Flemmer said, “Our kids played hard.  They came out and took control of the game from the start.  The defense played fast and aggressive, and our offense executed well.”

The Cardinals will host Colman-Egan on Friday, September 28th, at 7:00 p.m for Homecoming.

St Mary Cross Country Teams Place Well at Flyer Invitational

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal boys and girls cross country teams participated in the Flyer Invitational at Freeman’s Valley View Golf Course on Wednesday, September 18th.  Gayville-Volin won the girls event with a team score of 15.  Bon Homme finished second with 22 points, Hanson third with 30 points, Viborg-Hurley was fourth with 40 points, and Dell Rapids St Mary finished fifth with 48 points.  The Cardinal boys team won the boys event with a team score of 16.  Parker finished second with 17 points, McCrossan was third with 24 points, Freeman Academy finished fourth with 27 points, and Bon Homme was fifth with 55 points.

Mitch Roeman took first place individually with a time of 17:56, and Jared Scholten finished second with a time of 18:14 for the Cardinals.

Canton Defeats Quarriers in Volleyball Action

Quarrier LogoThe Canton C-Hawks defeated the Dell Rapids Quarriers on Tuesday, September 17th, three games to one by scores of 25-17, 14-25, 25-15, 25-19 in Dell Rapids.  Canton jumped out to a 16-2 lead in the first game.  The Quarriers cut it to 23-16, but the C-Hawks were able to hold on for the first game win.  Dell Rapids took game two with a run midway through the second game.  The third game was back and forth with the game tied at 9-9, but Canton reeled off seven straight points to go ahead 16-9 on the way to the win in the third game.  Again, the fourth game was close as Canton led 14-11, but another run put the C-Hawks up 19-11.  Canton would hang on and win the game and the match.

Emily Boyle had four aces in the match for Dell Rapids.  Madie Vietor and Jordan Stone each had six kills apiece.  Maria Nagelhout had 11 set assists.  Stone also helped lead the defense with three bloks.  Karlie Leighton finished with eight digs on the night.

Dell Rapids falls to 1-6 on the year.  The Quarriers will travel to Tri-Valley to take on the Mustangs on Thursday, September 19th.

JV Results:

The JV team defeated Canton 2-0 by scores of 25-16, 25-13.  Mikaela Stofferahn had eight kills in the match.  Brittnay Welbig had 12 set assists and 10 aces.  Shelby Wrage finished with five digs.

C Team Results:

The C Team fell to Canton 2-1 by scores of 17-25, 25-22, 11-15.  Chloe Solberg had five kills.  Autumn Schumaker and Alexis Krantz each had two aces.  Kenzie Gullickson had six digs in the match.

Quarrier Golfers Earn Another Tournament Win

Quarrier LogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier boys golf team picked up another tournament win on Monday, September 16th, in Madison at the Madison Country Club.  The Quarriers won the 15-team Madison Invitational with a team score of 323.  Madison finished second with a team score 337.  West Central finished third, followed by Aberdeen Roncalli, Canton, and Sioux Falls Christian.

Ty Hoglund and Adam Karst each shot a round of 77 to finish fourth and fifth respectively.  Mason Schmidt had a round of 83 for tenth place.  Zach Schroeder finished with an 86 to tie for fifteenth place.  Devon Weber had a round of 87, and Josh Parrott finished the day with a 91.

The Quarriers will participate in the EPJ Invite at Elk Point on Friday, September 20th.
