Quarrier Golf Team Wins in Sisseton

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier golf team picked up a win in Sisseton, which will be the location for the Regional Tournament next week, on Thursday, September 25th.  Dell Rapids finished with a team score of 329, two shots better than Milbank at 331.  Milbank finished third with a team score of 350.

Devon Weber took home first place individually with a round of 75.  Adam Karst finished third with a round of 78.  Ty Hoglund finished the day with an 84, Mason Schimdt had a 92, Josh Parrott fired a 95, and Jordan Kerns ended with a 96.

The Quarriers will travel back to Sisseton on Monday, September 29th, for the Regional Tournament.

Quarrier Cross Country Results from DR Quarrier Invite

QuarriersRocky Run Golf Course hosted the Dell Rapids Quarrier Cross Country Invite on Wednesday, September 24th.  The Dell Rapid Quarrier girls placed fifth with a team score of 51, while the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal girls placed sixth with a team score of 73.  Canton won the girls event with a team score of 26, followed by Flandreau with 33.  The Dell Rapids Quarrier boys finished second with a team score of 43.  Garretson won the boys event with a team score of 14.

Cardinal Volleyball Wins 2nd Match in a Row

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal volleyball team won their second match in a row, and third overall, with a 25-4, 25-13, 25-17 win over the Flandreau Indian School on Tuesday, September 23rd.

Kaitlyn Vortherms had a tremendous night at the serving line as she tallied 16 service aces in the match.  Riley Wolles led the team with four kills, while Ally Mullaney added three.  Vortherms also had a great night defensively with 14 digs.  Mullaney added 10 digs for the Cardinals.  Lindsey Wolles finished the night with 12 set assists.

The Cardinals are now 3-9 overall, and will take on Elkton/Lake Benton on Thursday, September 25th.

Quarrier Golf Wins Dak-12 Conference Tourney

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier boys golf team won the Dak-12 Conference Tournament on Monday, September 22nd, at Two Rivers Golf Course in Dakota Dunes, SD.  The Quarriers finished with a team score of 305.  Vermillion finished second with a score of 313.  Canton was third with 320, Madison fourth at 327, and Sioux Falls Christian was fifth with 341.

Not only did the Dell Rapids team finished first, but the Quarriers had three of the top four finishers individually.  Ty Hoglund won the tournament with a round of 72.  Devon Weber finished second with a 74.  Adam Karst finished fourth with a score of 76.  Mason Schmidt finished with a round of 83.  Jordan Kerns had an 84, and Josh Parrott finished with an 87.

The Quarriers will play in the Sisseton Invite on Thursday, September 25th.  This tournament will give Dell Rapids a chance to play at Valley View Golf Course in Sisseton prior to the Regional tournament, which will be held in Sisseton on Monday, September 29th.

Cardinal Cheer Team 6th in Brookings – Dell Rapids 10th

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal Cheer team finished 6th at the Brookings Cheer and Dance Invite.  The Dell Rapids Quarriers also participated in the event and finished 10th.  The Cardinals finished with 198.5 points, while the Quarriers finished with 163 points.  Sioux Falls O’Gorman won the event with 241 points.  Sioux Falls Washington was second, followed by Sioux Falls Roosevelt, Watertown, and Brookings.  Dell Rapids St Mary was the top Class A school at the event.  Dell Rapids was the next best Class A school at the competition.  Quarriers

Quarrier Golf Places 2nd at EPJ Invite

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier golf team finished second in the Elk Point/Jefferson Invitational on Friday, September 19th.  Vermillion won the event with a team score of 324.  Dell Rapids finished with a 328, and Canton finished third with a score of 341.

Ty Hoglund placed first individually in the tournament with a round of 77.  Devon Weber placed fifth after a round of 80.  Adam Karst had an 85 and placed 12th.  Jordan Kerns finished the day with an 86.  Josh Parrott had an 87, and Mason Schmidt ended with a 91.

For the JV squad, Trevor Hanzlik had an 89 and placed 3rd, Pierce Schumacher finished in a tie for fifth with a round of 92, and Jace Blair shot a 95.

The Quarriers will play in the Dak-12 Conference Tournament held at Two Rivers Golf Course (Dakota Valley).

Cardinal Football Wins Third Straight

DellRapidsStMaryFootballThe Dell Rapid St. Mary Cardinals improved to 3-0 with a 44-28 victory over the Colman/Egan Hawks on Friday, September 19th, in Colman.

On the first play of the game, Colman/Egan fumbled the ball and was recovered by St Mary.  St. Mary capitalized on the turnover with Josh Brown’s first touchdown of the night.  On the next drive, the Hawks turned the ball over on downs, and the Cardinals marched down the field scoring on Brown’s second touchdown of the night. Colman/Egan punted on their next possession and pinned St. Mary’s back on their own 10 yard-line. Brown scored his third touchdown of the quarter on a 70-yard run.

Colman/Egan then started their comeback. After Brown’s three touchdowns, Riley Voelker had touchdown runs of 50 and 75 yards to cut St.
Mary’s lead to 18-14 at halftime. The Hawks struck first in the 3rd quarter with a touchdown reception by Josh Giese to give Colman/Egan their only lead of the game at 20-18.

St Mary regained control of the game from that point.  The Cardinals outscored the Hawks 26-8 the rest of the game for the win.

Brown finished the game with 230 yards and three touchdowns.  The Cardinals were led by Dalton Houska defensively with six tackles and a fumble recovery.  Noah Fiegen had 5.5 tackles and a sack as well.

Head Coach Ross Flemmer said that the Cardinals still have a lot of work to do to be prepared for Arlington, especially cutting down on the penalties.  St Mary was flagged for more than 10 penalties for the third straight week.

The Cardinals will take on the Arlington Cardinals in Arlington on Friday, September 26th.

Quarrier Football Has Impressive Win over Milbank

DRvsMilbank_FB_9-19-14The Dell Rapids Quarrier football team posted an impressive win over the Milbank Bulldogs 51-0 on Friday, September 19th, in Dell Rapids.  The Dell Rapids offense imposed their will on Milbank, and the defense shut down the Milbank offense completely in the game.

Dell Rapids scored early on a 65-yard punt return by Tanner Ljunggren to take a 6-0 lead.  Riley Schmidt followed that with a 2-yard touchdown run on Dell Rapids’ next drive to give the Quarriers a 13-0.  Keegan Hemenway put Dell Rapids ahead 16-0, still in the first quarter, after a 22-yard field goal.  Schmidt added another touchdown run in the first quarter, this time from 70 yards.  Dell Rapids led 23-0 after the first quarter.

The Quarrier offense continued to roll in the second quarter.  Ljunggren had a 43-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter to add to the Quarrier lead.  Schmidt also had a punt return for a touchdown of 63 yards.  Sam White scored the final two touchdowns for Dell Rapids in the second quarter.  The first run was for five yards, and the second touchdown run was 53 yards.  The game ended at halftime with Dell Rapids winning 51-0.

Dell Rapids finished with 359 yards of total offense, all on the ground, while holding Milbank to just 72 total yards.  Schmidt had five carries for 131 yards and two touchdowns.  White had three carries for 61 yards and two touchdowns, while Ljunggren had two carries for 58 yards and a touchdown.  Andrew Wiebenga led the team with four tackles and a sack for the Quarriers.  Henry LaCoursiere and Tanner Heim each had three tackles apiece.

The Quarriers improve to 2-1 on the year.  Dell Rapids will travel to North Sioux City to take on the Dakota Valley Panthers on Friday, September 26th.

Quarrier Volleyball Falls to Tri-Valley

DRHSvsTV_VB_9-18-14_2The Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team lost a tough match to the Tri-Valley Mustangs on Thursday, September 18th, by scores of 12-25, 10-25, 25-23, 28-26, 5-15.

Tri-Valley took the first two games with relative ease, but the Quarriers fought back in a back-and-forth third game.  With the score tied 23-23, Dell Rapids scored the final two points to push the match to a fourth game.  The Quarriers rode the momentum early in the fourth game gaining an 18-10 lead.  The Mustangs fought back and tied the game up late.  Tri-Valley then had the fourth game at match point three different times before Dell Rapids rallied for three straight points to win game four at 28-26.  However, the Quarriers could not complete the comeback as Tri-Valley took the fifth game 15-5 to win the match.

Shelby Wrage had eight service points and 14 digs in the match.  Baily Munk ended the night with 23 digs.  Brittany Kludt and Mikaela Stofferahn had three blocks each defensively.  Emily Boyle finished with 11 kills, and Stofferahn had nine kills.  Sarah Haak had 30 assists in the match.

Dell Rapids fell to 4-5 on the year.  The Quarriers will travel to Garretson on Tuesday, September 23rd.DRHSvsTV_VB_9-18-14_1

Quarrier Volleyball Back in Win Column

QuarriersThe Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team got back into the win column with a straight set win over the Canton C-Hawks on Tuesday, September 16th, in Canton.  The Quarriers won by set scores of 25-15, 25-16, 25-16.

Tiffany Finkral had 14 service points and eight kills to lead the Quarriers.  Mara Adams added eight kills.  Brittany Kludt finished with seven kills and three block points.  Sarah Haak finished with 22 set assists in the match.  Shelby Wrage contributed 15 digs for the Quarrier defense.  Baily Munk added 14 digs.

Dell Rapids improves their record to 4-4 on the year.  The Quarriers will host Tri-Valley on Thursday, September 18th.  The match will be webcast on Big Sioux Media.

JV Results:
The JV team won two sets to zero.   Kia Schumacher, Chloe Solberg, Megan Miles, Sami Reider, Trinity Gordon, and Hannah Welbig led the total team effort.  C Team Results:
The C team set scores were 25-20 and 26-24.  Betsy Amundson was cited for her efforts on both offense and defense.  Kenedy Mergen added seven service points.   Lydia Symens and Sydney Stofferahn played well on the defensive side of the net.
