Quarriers Fall to Baltic at Home

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarriers fell to the Baltic Bulldogs three sets to one on Monday, October 10th, by scores of 25-21, 25-23, 15-25, 25-18.  In all three sets that Baltic won, they pulled away from Dell Rapids midway through the set.

Sydney Stofferahn led the Quarriers with nine kills on the night.  Hannah Fletcher was credited with 11 points.  Emma Paul had 10 points with seven kills.  Brooke Klein finished with 24 digs, and Chloe Solberg had 26 set assists and 14 digs.

Dell Rapids now falls to a record of 10-10 overall.

JV Results:

The JV won 25-12 and 25-17. Regan Stone (five kills, 13 digs, six service points), Mallory Haak (12 points, three digs), and Kyra Graham (four kills, three points) paved the way for the victory.

C Team Results:

The C team came away with a win by defeating the Bulldogs 26-24 and 25-17.  Dezi Rus (10 digs, five kills), Jessica Schoeberl (eight points, nine digs), and Ava Schuring (six assists).  Cited for the back row play include Mychael Williams, Sydney Emery, Steph Geraets and Vlada Solohhova.

Quarrier Defense Dominates in Win over Milbank Area

DellRapidsFootballLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier defense dominated the game against Milbank Area on Friday, October 7th.  The Quarriers held the Bulldogs to just 26 total yards of offense the entire game, 31 passing yards and -5 rushing yards.  The defense recovered three fumbles and had one interception, plus held Milbank Area to just five first downs.

The Quarriers scored first in the opening quarter on a Tanner Heim 34-yard run to go ahead 6-0.  Dell Rapids scored again in the second quarter when Anthony Miller scored on a five-yard run.  Seth Andersen scored the two-point conversion to extend the Quarrier lead to 14-0.  Milbank Area scored in the third quarter on a 34-yard pass play from Cole Dockter to Jonny Ash to cut the lead to 14-6.  Dell Rapids scored the final touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter on a three-yard run by Andersen.  Dell Rapids won the game 20-6.

Hunter Hansen was 4-8 passing for 44 yards.  Jeffrey Schuch, Mason Peter, Andersen, and Seth Spielmann all had a catch.  Hansen also had 17 carries for 86 yards.  Tanner Heim had 15 carries for 85 yards.  Miller had eight carries for 77 yards, Spielmann had five carries for 51 yards, and Andersen had 12 carries for 27 yards.  Matt Gillogly had four tackles.  Andersen also had four tackles, two of them of loss.  Spielmann finished the game with three tackles.

Onside Kicks Lead to Cardinal Win

DellRapidsStMaryFootballThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals recovered three onside kicks in the second half which led to a 36-14 win over the Deubrook Area Dolphins in White on Friday, October 7th.

The Cardinals scored on their first drive after receiving the opening kickoff.  Garret Frost scored on a one-yard run with 6:36 to play in the first quarter to give St Mary an early 6-0 lead.  The Dolphins scored on their first drive as well.  Clayton Koppatschek threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Denton Schwartz with 9:47 to go in the second quarter.  The extra point was good, and the Dolphins took a 7-6 lead.  Neither team scored the remainder of the first half.

St Mary had to kick-off to start the third quarter.  Luke Brown bounced the kick over the front row and Sam Schwebach recovered the onside kick.  The Cardinals scored a few plays later on a 16-yard run by Frost to regain the lead at 12-7.  The Dolphins recovered the next kickoff and scored with 6:23 to play in the third quarter when Koppatschek connected with Brock Sheffield on a 15-yard touchdown pass.  Deubrook led 14-12.  St Mary scored one more time before the end of the third quarter.  Frost scored this third touchdown of the game on a five-yard run with :08 to play in the quarter to give the Cardinals the lead again at 20-14.

St Mary recovered the onside kick for the second time in the half which resulted in another Frost touchdown with 9:41 to play in the game.  The Cardinals recovered the onside kick after the touchdown and scored one more time about a minute later.  Evan Brown scored on a 15-yard run with 8:37 to go in the game to make the score 36-14.

Luke Brown finished the night 4-7 passing for 68 yards.  Frost had two catches for 48 yards, and Zach Geraets had a catch for 18 yards.  Frost also finished with 17 carries for 132 yards and four touchdowns.  E. Brown had seven carries for 75 yards and a touchdown.  Dalton Houska and Frost each had seven tackles in the game.  Ethan Geraets had 6.5 tackles and a sack.

The Cardinals improved to 3-4 on the year.  St Mary will host Colman-Egan in their final regular season game on Friday, October 14th.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media

Cardinal Volleyball Team Falls to Estelline

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals fell to Estelline in four games on Thursday, October 6th, in Estelline.  Game scores were 8-25, 25-22, 20-25, and 23-25.

Maddie Schwebach finished with six kills and one ace serve.  Jackie Wolles added five kills and six digs.  Kennedi Mullaney had five kills, one ace serve, and one block.  Cassy Geraets had 19 set assists in the match.  Haley Michel had 20 digs, and Rhiannon Glazier added eight digs.

The Cardinals fall to 2-18 on the season.  St Mary will host Hendricks, MN on Tuesday, October 11th.

Quarrier Girls 7th, Boys 9th at Dak-12 Cross Country Meet

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier girls and boys cross country teams ran in the Dak-12 Conference cross country meet at Yankton Trails in Sioux Falls.

The girls team finished seventh with a total 106 points.  Beresford won the team title with 23 points.  Sioux Falls Christian was second with 44 points, and Vermillion placed third with 53 points.  Maddie Lavin of Vermillion won the individual title with a time of 19:02.55

The Quarrier boys team finished ninth with 158 points.  Sioux Falls Christian won the conference title with 28 points.  West Central was second with 37 points, and Beresford was third with 50 points.  Derick Peters from West Central placed first individually with a time of 15:40.80

Dell Rapids will be at the Region meet on Thursday, October 13th, at the McCook Golf Course.

Cardinal Boys 3rd, Girls 4th at DVC Cross Country Meet

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids Cardinal boys cross country team finished third at the Dakota Valley Conference cross country meet in De Smet on Wednesday, October 5th.  The boys finished with a team score 30 points.  Elkton-Lake Benton won the team title with 11 points.  Oldham-Ramona/Rutland was second with 25 points.

The Cardinal girls cross country team finished fourth with 35 points.  Deubrook Area was first with 16 points.  De Smet finished second with 24 points, and Lake Preston was third with 27 points.

St Mary had three runners finish in the top 10 at the meet.  Connor Libis finished fourth with a time of 18:45.47.  Jacob Vogel was fifth with a time of 19:00.69.  Ella Heinitz placed sixth with a time of 22:15.05.

The Cardinal boys JV had two teams run in the JV conference meet.  Team A placed first with 13 points, while team B placed third with 29 points.  Elkton-Lake Benton team A placed second with 18 points.

St Mary will now run in the Region meet on Wednesday, October 12th, in Howard.

Quarrier Volleyball Ends Skid with Win Over Vermillion

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team ended a four-match skid with a four set win over the Vermillion Tanagers on Tuesday, October 4th, in Dell Rapids.  The Quarriers won by scores of 27-25, 14-25, 27-25, and 25-22.

Brooke Klein finished the night with 18 points and 34 digs.  Trinity Gordon added 14 kills and 26 digs.  Jayda Knuppe had 10 kills, and Chloe Solberg had 11 points, seven kills, and 31 set assists.  Sydney Stofferahn and Maria Jackson played solid defense at the night all match long.

Dell Rapids improved to 10-8 overall and 4-3 against Dak-12 opponents.  The Quarriers will host the Dakota Valley Panthers on Thursday, October 6th.

JV Results

The JV team dropped the Tanagers two sets to zero by the set scores of 25-23 and 25-14.  Gabi Rus (13 digs, seven service points), Maria Jackson (six kills, four digs and five points) and Hannah Fletcher (six points, five kills and 12 set assists) led the team effort.

C Team Results

The C team scored an impressive two set to zero victory. Dezi Rus (14 points, six digs, four kills), Jessica Schoeberl (five points, five digs, seven set assists), and Katie Steineke (four kills and one block) led the victors.

2016 Boys State A Golf Tournament – Final Results

NewDRLogoThe 2016 Boys State A Golf Tournament concluded on Tuesday, October 4th, at Hart Ranch in Rapid City.

After a first round 87, Mason Schmidt also had a second round of 87 and finished the tournament with a 174 (+30) to finish tied for 32nd.  Jordan Kerns followed his opening round of 93 with a second round of a 95 to finish with a total of 188 (+44) to finish 68th.  Karsen Welbig finished the second round with a 111 (104 in opening round) for a total of 215 (+71) to finish 94th.

Jacob Lee of Parkston won the individual title with a two-day total of 153.  Nick Lust of St Thomas More was second with a 154, and Brian Finn of Tea Area was third with a two-day total of 156.  Tea Area won the team title with a combined score of 670.  Spearfish and St Thomas More tied for second with 672, and Chamberlain was fourth with 674.

2016 State A Boys Golf Tournament – Day 1

NewDRLogoMonday, October 3rd, was the first day of the 2016 State A Golf Tournament at Hart Ranch in Rapid City.  Three Dell Rapids golfers are participating in the state tournament.  Mason Schmidt had an opening round of 87 (+15) and is currently tied for 32nd.  Jordan Kerns had a first round of 93 (+21) and is tied for 59th.  Karsen Welbig finished his first day with a round of 104 (+32) and is tied for 87th.

The final round will be held Tuesday, October 4th.

Dell Rapids Softball Finishes Fourth at State

dellrapidssoftball_2016state_2The Dell Rapids varsity softball team finished fourth place at the 2016 high school state volleyball tournament in Sioux Falls.

Dell Rapids opened the tournament with a 14-4 win over Madison.  West Central, the eventual state champions, defeated Dell Rapids in their second game 11-1.  Dell Rapids fought back in the tournament with three straight wins.  They earned wins over Garretson (19-12), Douglas (19-11), and Tea (9-8).  Vermillion ended the tournament for Dell Rapids with a last inning 12-11 win.

Kinsey Carr pitched 19 innings for Dell Rapids in the tournament striking out 17 and walking just four batters.  Shelby Apland pitched 17 innings in the tournament.  Offensively Dell Rapids was led by Carr, Sheree Lacey, and Ashlee Lorenzen.  All three hit over .500 for the tournament with Carr and Lacey each collecting home runs.

Coach Todd Carr said, “For their first appearance in the high school state tournament, the girls represented Dell Rapids very well.  The girls played great.”

Carr and Tiffanie Dorale were named to the South Dakota High School Softball All-State Team.  Apland and Brooke Klein were honorable mentions.
