Quarrier Defense Shuts out Canton

DellRapidsFootballLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier defense held the Canton Hawks scoreless as Dell Rapids went on to win 28-0 on Friday, September 30th, in Canton.

Neither team scored in the first quarter, but the Quarriers were able to break through in the second quarter on a one-yard touchdown run by Matt Gillogly to take a 7-0 lead into halftime.  The Quarrier offense then took control in the third quarter scoring three times.  Hunter Hansen scored on a 37-yard run to put Dell Rapids ahead 14-0.  Anthony Miller had a touchdown run of two yards, and Seth Spielmann scored on a 64-yard run later in the third to extend the lead to 28-0.

Hansen finished the night 6-14 passing for 161 yards.  Tanner Heim had three catches for 130 yards.  Mason Peter had two catches for 25 yards.  Nick Boever and Jeffry Schuch each had a catch.  Seth Andersen finished the night with nine carries for 78 yards. Hansen had eight carries for 51 yards.  Miller had seven rushes for 42 yards, and Heim had 10 carries for 20 yards.

Gillogly had four tackles for the defense, including three for a loss and one sack.  Heim also tallied four tackles.  Nate McKee finished with three tackles and a fumble recovery.  Ross Wiebenga had a fumble recovery, and Peter had an interception for the Quarrier defense.

Dell Rapids improves to 4-2 on the season.  The Quarriers will host Milbank Area on Friday, October 7th.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Frost’s 4 Touchdowns Lead Cardinals to Win

drsmvselb_fb_9-30-16Garret Frost ran for four touchdowns and passed for another to help lead the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals to a 42-26 win over the Elkton/Lake Benton Elks on Friday, September 30th, at Rickeman Field in Dell Rapids.

St Mary scored first with 6:27 to go in the first quarter when Frost ran into the endzone from three yards away.  Evan Brown scored the two point conversion, and the Cardinals led 8-0.  That was the only score of the first quarter.  The Elks scored early in the second quarter.  With 9:28 to go, Blaine Hefti scored on a five-yard run.  The two-point conversion was no good to keep the score at 8-6.

The Cardinals scored two times before halftime after the Elk touchdown.  With 6:06 to go in the quarter, Luke Brown connected with E. Brown from 13 yards away for a touchdown.  E. Brown again scored the two-point conversion to push the lead to 16-6.  St Mary scored again with just :43 left in the half when Frost threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to E. Brown.  Frost then connected with Zach Geraets for the two-point conversion to give the Cardinals a 24-6 lead heading into halftime.

Elkton/Lake Benton scored on their first drive of the third quarter.  Caleb Goertz scored on a seven-yard run with 7:32 to go in the third quarter.  The two-point conversion was no good, and the St Mary lead was cut to 24-12.  That’s when Frost struck for three touchdowns in a row.

Frost scored his second touchdown of the game with 2:52 to go in the third quarter from six yards away to give St Mary a 30-12 lead.  Frost scored again early in the fourth quarter with 9:48 to go.  He scored from six yards away again to push the lead to 36-12.  Frost scored again from six yards away with 5:40 to go in the game to put St Mary ahead 42-12.  The Elks were able to get two more scores before the end of the game.  Trevor Sik had a 74-yard kickoff return for a touchdown with 5:27 to go in the game.  Devin Sopko had a 16-yard touchdown run with :28 left to play for the final score.

The Cardinals improve to 2-4 on the season.  St Mary will travel to White to play the Deubrook Area Dolphins on Friday, October 7th.  Big Sioux Media will try to cover the game.

Quarrier Girls 6th, Boys 10th at Lennox Oriole Cross Country Invite

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier girls and boys cross country teams traveled to Lennox for the Lennox Oriole Cross Country Invite at LenKota Golf Course on Friday, September 30th.

The Quarrier girls finished sixth as a team with 105 points.  Beresford was first with 35 points.  Vermillion finished second with 49 points, and Sioux Falls Christian was third with 57 points.

The Quarrier boys finished 10th with a total team score of 174 points.  Sioux Falls Christian was first with 22 points.  West Central finished second with 48 points, and Beresford was third with 60 points.

Dell Rapids will run in the Dak-12 Conference Meet on Thursday, October 6th, at Yankton Trails Park in Sioux Falls.

Lennox Defeats Quarrier Volleyball Team

NewDRLogoThe Lennox Orioles defeated the Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team by scores of 25-21, 23-25, 25-20, 25-18 on Thursday, September 29th, in Lennox.

Trinity Gordon paced the Quarriers with 12 kills, 26 digs and three ace serves in the match.  McKenzie Gullickson had 18 digs.  Sydney Stofferahn had two blocks, and Chloe Solberg finished the night with 20 set assists.

The Quarriers fall to 9-8 overall and 3-3 against Dak-12 teams.  Dell Rapids will host Vermillion on Tuesday, October 4th.

Elks Defeat St Mary Volleyball

DRSM LogoThe Elkton-Lake Benton Elks defeated the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals in straight sets on Thursday, September 29th, by scores of 25-14, 25-12, 25-10.

Kennedi Mullaney led the team with two kills in the match.  Cassie Mullaney, Rhiannon Glazier, and Jackie Wolles all had one kill each.  Cassy Geraets had a team-high five set assists.  Maddie Schwebach had the lone ace serve for the Cardinals.  Schwebach also led the team in blocks with two.  Haley Michel finished the night with seven digs.  Glazier added four digs.

The Cardinals now fall to 2-16 on the year.  St Mary will travel to Freeman on Monday, October 3rd.

The Elks also won the JV match over the Cardinals by scores of 25-14, 25-14.

Cardinal Girls Fourth, Boys Sixth at Colman-Egan Cross Country Meet

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal boys and girls cross country teams participated in the Colman-Egan Cross Country Invite on Wednesday, September 28th.

The Cardinal girls team finished fourth as a team with 33 points.  Mt Vernon-Plankinton was first with 16 points.  Deubrook Area was second with 24 points, and Howard was third with 30 points.

The St Mary boys finished sixth as a team with 53 points.  Elkton-Lake Benton was first with 24 points.  McCrossan was second with 27 points, and Baltic was third with 30 points.

The Cardinals had three runners place in the top 10 in the meet.  Connor Libis finished second, and Jacob Vogel finished ninth for the boys.  Ella Heinitz finished fifth for the girls.

St Mary will will be in De Smet on Wednesday, October 5th, for the Dakota Valley Conference meet.

Cougars Defeat Quarriers in Volleyball Action

NewDRLogoThe McCook Central/Montrose Cougars defeated the Dell Rapids Quarriers in straight sets by scores of 25-15, 25-22, 25-16 on Tuesday, September 27th, in Dell Rapids.  Emma Paul and Trinity Gordon each had eight kills and 10 digs in the match.  Chloe Solberg added 22 set assists.  Dell Rapids now falls to 9-7 overall.  The Quarriers will travel to Lennox for a match against the Orioles on Thursday, September 29th.

JV Results

The JV team fell 20-25 and 16-25.  Leaders included Maria Jackson (three kills, seven digs), Gabi Rus (10 digs, three points), Regan Stone (six digs, three kills) and Hannah Fletcher (10 set assists, six digs and two kills).

C Team Results

The C team lost 17-25 and 24-26.  Jessica Schoeberl (12 digs), Gabi (eight points), Katie Steineke (three kills) led a team effort.

Three Quarrier Golfers Qualify for State

NewDRLogoThree Dell Rapids Quarrier golfers qualified for the 2016 State A Tournament.  Jordan Kerns, Mason Schmidt, and Karsen Welbig all qualified individually after their play at the Region 1A Tournament on Monday, September 26th, at the Madison Country Club.

Kerns finished with a round of 94 and placed 14th.  Schmidt finished with a round of 96 and placed 18th.  Welbig had a round of 103 and placed 27th, just making the individual cut for state.  Sheldon Siemonsma had a round of 107, and Zach McKee had a round of 116.  Lucas Schaefbauer and Stuart Farrand, both from Aberdeen Roncalli, finished with round of 86 to finish first and second respectfully.

Aberdeen Roncalli finished first as a team with a score of 351.  Sioux Valley was second with 363, and Sisseton was third with a score of 369.  All members of these teams also qualify for the state tournament.  Dell Rapids finished fifth as a team with a score of 400.

Kerns, Schmidt, and Welbig will play at the 2016 State A Tournament on Monday, October 3rd, and Tuesday, October 4th, at the Hart Ranch Golf Course in Rapid City.

Cardinals 0-4 at Elkton Volleyball Tournament

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal volleyball team went 0-4 on Saturday, September 24th, at the Don Magnus Memorial Volleyball Tournament in Elkton.

The Cardinals fell to Alcester-Hudson by scores of 25-7, 25-23.  Kennedi Mullaney had eight kills in the match.  Jackie Wolles had four kills and three digs.  Haley Michel finished with eight digs.  Cassy Geraets had 11 set assists.

Iroquois defeated St Mary by scores of 25-14, 26-24.  K. Mullaney and Cassie Mullaney each had two kills in the match.  Michel tallied five digs, and Geraets had eight set assists.  K. Mullaney also had a block while Wolles had two digs.

St Mary then fell to Elkton-Lake Benton by scores of 25-12, 25-15.  Veronica Beck had three kills for the Cardinals.  Michel had seven digs, Wolles had four, and Maxwell had three digs.  Geraets had four set assists, and Wolles had two.

The Cardinals also lost to Gayville-Volin by scores of 25-23, 25-12.  Wolles and Maddie Schwebach each had two kills in the match.  K. Mullaney, Beck, and C. Mullaney had three blocks apiece.  Michel finished with five digs.  Geraets had four set assists, and Wolles had two assists.

St Mary’s record on the season is now 2-14.  The Cardinals will travel to Baltic on Tuesday, September 27th.

Quarriers Win Homecoming Game over West Central

DellRapidsFootballLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarriers scored 21 unanswered points in the second half on their way to a 21-7 win over the West Central Trojans on Homecoming Friday, September 23rd.

West Central scored on a three-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, but that was the only score they would get the rest of the game. The Trojans did lead 7-0 at halftime, but Dell Rapids scored two times in the third quarter and one more time in the fourth for the win.

Anthony Miller had seven carries for 55 yards and a touchdown. Tanner Heim had six carries for 52 yards and a touchdown. Hunter Hansen carried the ball 13 times for 27 yards. Matt Gillogly had three carries for 21 yards and a touchdown. Hansen was 3-6 passing for 32 yards. Mason Peter had a catch for 25 yards. Seth Andersen had a catch for seven yards. Peter led the team with six tackles. Ross Wiebenga, Cole VanDuyn, and Andersen all had five tackles each.

Dell Rapids improves to 3-2 on the year. The Quarriers will travel to Canton on Friday, September 30th. The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.
