Bearcats Win on Cardinals Senior Night

drsmvsfreemanacad_vb_10-18-16The Freeman Academy/Marion Bearcats defeated the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals in straight sets by scores of 25-13, 25-11, 25-20, on Tuesday, October 18th, at Dell Rapids St Mary High School.  It was the final home match of the regular season for the Cardinals in which they honored the seniors Haley Michel, Kennedi Mullaney, and Jackie Wolles.

The Cardinals had a lead early in each of the games and also lead 18-9 in the final game before Freeman Academy/Marion made their run to win in straight sets.

The loss drops the Cardinals to 2-25 on the season.  St Mary will wrap up the regular season at De Smet on Monday, October 24th.

Cardinals Compete in DVC Volleyball Tourney

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal volleyball team competed in the Dakota Valley Conference volleyball tournament on Saturday, October 15th, in Colman.

The Cardinals went 0-2 in pool play dropping their first match against Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 25-10, 25-9.  In St Mary’s second match, the Cardinals fell to Castlewood 25-18, 25-7.

The two losses put the Cardinals in the Bronze bracket.  St Mary lost to Lake Preston in the opening round of the bracket by scores of 25-14, 25-20.  The Cardinals then faced Estelline in the final match of the day falling by scores of 25-20, 25-13.

Kennedi Mullaney finished the tournament with six kills.  Veronica Beck had five kills, and Jackie Wolles and Cassie Mullaney each had four kills.  Cassy Geraets led the team in assists on the day with 27.  Adyn Heinricy had six service aces in the tournament.  Wolles and C. Mullaney both had two blocks on the day.  Haley Michel finished with 24 digs.

The Cardinals now have a record of 2-24.  St Mary will host Freeman Academy/Marion on Tuesday, October 18th, in the final regular season home match of the year.  The match can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Quarriers Win Fourth Straight

DellRapidsFootballLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarriers won their fourth game in a row after defeating the Dakota Valley Panthers 21-3 on Friday, October 14th, at Dakota Valley High School in North Sioux City.

Dell Rapids got the scoring started in first quarter when Carson Rentz connected with Hunter Hansen on a 23-yard pass to take a 7-0 lead.  Dakota Valley scored on a 23-yard field goal by Connor Roper.  The first quarter ended with Dell Rapids leading 7-3.

The Quarriers scored again in the second quarter when Hansen scored on a one-yard run to put Dell Rapids ahead 14-3.  After neither team scored in the third quarter, Anthony Miller scored on a one-yard run for Dell Rapids to push the lead to 21-3.

Hansen finished 2-8 passing for 39 yards.  Rentz was 1-2 passing for 23 yards and a touchdown.  Hansen had 16 carries for 58 yards and a touchdown.  Miller had nine carries for 54 yards and a touchdown.  Matt Gillogly had 10 carries for 45 yards.  Hansen also had one catch for 23 yards and a touchdown.  Adam Nagelhout had one catch for 31 yards, and Mason Peter had a catch for eight yards.  Defensively for the Quarriers, Nate McKee had seven tackles, two of them for loss.  Eddie Price added five tackles.  Gillogly finished with three tackles.

The Quarriers had a total of 271 yards of offense, 62 passing yards and 209 rushing yards.  They were 3-13 on third down, but 4-5 on fourth down.  Dell Rapids only turned the ball over one time.  Dakota Valley had a total 227 yards of offense, 60 passing yards and 167 rushing yards.  The Panthers finished 2-11 on third down and 2-5 fourth down plus turned the ball over three times.

Dell Rapids improves to 6-2 on the season.  The Quarriers will finish up the regular season at home on senior night against the Lennox Orioles on Thursday, October 20th.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

First Quarter Run Propels Colman-Egan over Cardinals

DRSM LogoThe Colman-Egan Hawks scored four touchdowns in five minutes in the first quarter on their way to a 46-6 win over the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals on Friday, October 14th, at Rickeman Field in Dell Rapids.

The Hawks scored the first touchdown with 4:32 to play in the first quarter when Bodee Groos connected with Kade Groos on a 14-yard touchdown pass.  The second touchdown was scored with 3:46 to go when B. Groos returned a blocked punt about 25 yards for a touchdown to go ahead 14-0.  Colman-Egan scored again :17 later when Walker Olivier returned an interception about 45 yards for a touchdown.  B. Groos scored again for Colman-Egan as time expired in the first quarter on a 16-yard run to put the Hawks ahead 28-0 after the first quarter.

Colman-Egan scored again before halftime.  The next score came with 6:12 to play in the second quarter on a 12-yard run by Keith Crittenden to give the Hawks a 34-0 heading into halftime.  Colman-Egan scored first again in the second half.  With 6:32 to play in the third quarter, Trey McKnight scored no a three-yard run.  St Mary finally was able to get on the board with 7:35 to play in the game when Evan Brown scored on a one-yard run.  The final score of the game came with :21 left on the clock on a five-yard run by McKnight.

The Cardinals finished the game with 180 yards of rushing offense.  Colman-Egan had 273 yards of total offense, 182 rushing yards and 91 passing yards.  Garret Frost had 24 carries for 112 yards in the game.  E. Brown had eight carries for 40 yards and a touchdown.  E. Brown led the team defensively with eight tackles.  Frost added seven tackles.  Dalton Houska finished the game with five tackles.

The St Mary Cardinals finish their regular season with a 3-5 record.  St Mary will have their bye week on Thursday, October 20th.

Quarriers Fall to #1 SF Christian

NewDRLogoOn senior night in Dell Rapids, the Dell Rapids Quarriers fell to the #1 team in Class A, the Sioux Falls Christian Chargers, in straight sets by scores of 25-15, 25-14, and 25-18 on Thursday, October 13th.  In all three of the games, the score was close mid-way through before the Chargers pulled away to win.

Emma Paul finished the night with six kills and six points.  Trinity Gordon added six kills and 10 digs.  Hannah Fletch notched 13 digs, and Brooke Klein finished the match with 12 digs.  Chloe Solberg had a team-high 21 set assists.

Dell Rapids falls to 10-12 overall on the season and 4-5 against Dak-12 Conference teams.  The Quarriers will play in the Dak-12 Conference Classic on Saturday, October 15th, in Canton.

JV Results:

he JV played well, but fell to SFC by the set scores of 23-25 and 17-25.  Maria Jackson (five digs, six points, five kills), Hannah Fletcher (three kills, 10 digs, 12 assists), and Regan Stone (five kills, 10 digs, three points) led a total team effort.

C Team Results:

The C team lost 2-1 by the set scores of 25-19, 22-25, and 9-15.  Katie Steineke (six kills), Mallory Haak (14 digs), Jessica Schoeberl (12 points, 13 digs) and Ava Schuring (11 digs, three kills, five points) paved the way for the Quarriers.

Deubrook Area Defeats Cardinal Volleyball

DRSM LogoTwo nights removed from defeating the Dell Rapids Quarriers, the Deubrook Area Dolphins defeated the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals in straight sets by scores of 25-15, 25-9, and 25-8 on Thursday, October 13th, at Dell Rapids St Mary High School.

The Cardinals finished the match with a total of 14 kills led by Cassie Mullaney with four.  Rhiannon Glazier and Maddie Schwebach each had three kills.  Kennedi Mullaney and Jackie Wolles finished with two kills.  Haley Michel led the defense with 19 digs on the night.  Wolles also finished the night with two blocks.

The Cardinals fall to 2-20 on the season.  St Mary will play in the Dakota Valley Conference tournament on Saturday, October 15th, in Colman.  The Cardinals will face Oldham-Ramona/Rutland in the first match of the day.

Quarrier Cross Country Team to Send Four to State

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier cross country team will have four runners in the State A Cross Country Meet on Saturday, October 22nd, in Huron.  Aspen Hansen, Kathryn Fletcher, Carter Wynja, and Caleb Kirschenmann all qualified by finishing in the top 20 at the Region 2A meet at Salem on Thursday, October 13th.

The Quarrier girls finished fifth as a team with a score of 73 points.  Garretson won the team title with 34 points.  Flandreau finished second with 37 points, and Madison was third with 40 points.  The Quarrier boys finished fourth with a total of 74 points.  West Central finished first with 11 points.  Garretson was second with 53 points, and Sioux Valley was third with 60 points.

Four Cardinals Qualify for State Cross Country

DRSM LogoFour Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal cross country runners qualified for the State B race with the performance at the Region 2B meet on Wednesday, October 12th, in Howard.

Ella Heinitz and Christina Vogel qualified from the girls team, and Connor Libis and Jacob Vogel qualified from the boys team.  The State B meet will be held on Saturday, October 22nd, in Huron.

As a team, the girls finished with a score of 52 points and finished fifth.  Gayville-Volin won the girls team title with 12 points.  Canistota was second with 35 points, and De Smet was third with 39 points.  The boys team finished sixth with 50 points.  Oldham-Ramona/Rutland placed first with 23 points.  Viborg-Hurley was second with 29 points, and Elkton-Lake Benton was third with 36 points.

Deubrook Area Defeats Quarriers in Four Sets

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team fell to the Deubrook Area Dolphins on Tuesday, October 11th, in White in four sets.  The final scores were 24-26, 25-13, 25-14, and 25-16.

Kenzie Gullickson and Jayda Knuppe each had seven points in the game.  Trinity Gordon added 11 kills, seven points and two blocks for the match.  Brooke Klein finished the night with 16 digs, and Chloe Solberg handed out 23 set assists.

The Quarriers fall to 10-11 overall on the season.  Dell Rapids will host Sioux Falls Christian on Thursday, October 13th, in the final regular season home match of the year.  The seniors will be recognized during the evening, and the match will also be streamed live on Big Sioux Media.

JV Results:

The JV lost 18-25 and 17-25. Leading the efforts were Regan Stone (three kills, 14 digs, two blocks, five service points) and Gabi Rus (15 digs).

C Team Results:

The C team played well in a 2-0 match win  by the set scores of 25-17 and 25-13.  Katie Steineke, Mallory Haak and Jessica Schoeberl led a total team effort in the win.

Cardinals Drop Match to Hendricks, MN

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals fell in straight sets to the Hendricks Grizzlies at St Mary High School on Tuesday, October 11th by scores of 25-19, 25-16, 25-23.

Maddie Schwebach led St Mary with five kills.  Kennedi Mullaney added four kills in the match, and Cassie Mullaney and Jackie Wolles each had three kills.  C. Mullaney added two blocks on the night.  Cassy Geraets had 11 set assists.  Haley Michel had an impressive 41 digs for the Cardinals.  Rhiannon Glazier had two ace serves.

St Mary falls to 2-19 on the season.  The Cardinals will hose Deubrook Area on Thursday, October 13th.
