Greenhoff and Downs Finish in Top Half of State A Tournament

NewDRLogoThe 2017 girls State A Golf Tournament concluded on Tuesday, June 6th, at Central Valley Golf Course in Hartford.

Kaitlyn Greenhoff finished in the top 25 earning medalist honors for the tournament.  Greenhoff finished tied for 23rd with a two-day total of 186.  Greenhoff had a second-round 89 after an opening round of 97.  Downs finished her state tournament in upper half of the field tied for 40th.  Downs had a second round of 94 to go with an opening round of 101 for a two-day total 0f 195.

Kate Wynja of Sioux Falls Christian won the individual title with a total of 156.  Lauryn Driscoll of West Central and Jade Burr of Belle Fourche tied for second with rounds of 157.  Canton won the team title with a team score of 724.  Lennox was second with a total of 732, and Vermillion was third with 741.

Greenhoff and Downs Complete 1st Day at State Golf

NewDRLogoKaitlyn Greenhoff and Olivia Downs completed their first day of the 2017 State A Golf Tournament on Monday, June 5th, at Central Valley Golf Course in Hartford.

Greenhoff ended her first day with a round of 97, which has her tied for 36th.  Downs finished just a few shots back with an opening day round of 101.  Downs is currently tied for 47th place.  Lauryn Driscoll of West Central leads after the first day with a round of 75.  Kate Wynja of Sioux Falls Christian and Jade Burr of Belle Fourche are tied for second with rounds of 78.

Canton currently leads in the team standings with a team score of 363.  Lennox is second at 365, and Lead-Deadwood sits in third place with a 370.

The final round of the 2017 State A Tournament will be completed in Hartford on Tuesday, June 6th.

Dell Rapids Legion Opens Season with Two Wins

DellsBaseballLogoThe Dell Rapids Legion baseball team opened their 2017 season with two wins in Madison on Thursday, June 1st.  Dell Rapids won the first game 9-1.  They then beat Madison in the second game 14-2 in just five innings.

Dell Rapids scored two runs in the third inning, five in the fourth, and then two more in the sixth in the opening game win.  Carter Gullickson finished the game 3-4 with three runs scored and an RBI.  Josh Roemen was 2-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.  Nate McKee and Brett Mogen also had hits.  McKee had three RBIs, and Mogen finished with two RBIs.  Mogen also earned the win in the first game throwing all seven innings giving up just one run on two hits while striking out 10 batters.

A six-run top of the fifth inning closed out the win in the second game.  Dell Rapids led 3-2 after the first inning.  They then scored three more runs in the second inning and two more in the third before the six-run fifth inning.  Lealand Randel was 2-2 with two runs scored and two RBI.  Mogen, Casey Hansen, Roemen, and Ethan Brobjorg all had hits.  Hansen and Mogen both finished with two RBIs.  McKee, Roemen, and Keegan Miller also had RBIs.  Elijah Story started the game for Dell Rapids giving up two runs on four hits while striking out two in three innings of work.

Dell Rapids (2-0) will play in Baltic on Monday, June 5th.

Dells Baseball Players Earn Post Season Awards

Josh RoemenAfter a 2017 championship run, a few of the Dell Rapids baseball players earned post-season awards for their play during the high school baseball season.

Josh Roemen, a senior, was selected as a Class B All-State player for 2017.  Roemen was also honored as an Academic All-State player and earned Region 2B All-Region honors.  Seniors Nate McKee and Trevor Pulscher were also honored as Region 2B All-Region selections.  Juniors Carter Gullickson and Matt Gillogly made the Region 2B All-Region team as well.

Dells Baseball Wins State Title

DRvsVerm_5-29-17_StateChampDell Rapids Baseball claimed the 2017 South Dakota High School Baseball Association State B championship on Monday, May 29th after beating West Central and Vermillion in the four team tournament at Sioux Falls Stadium.

Dell Rapids opened up the tournament with an 11-5 win over West Central.  Dell Rapids put the pressure on early and often in the opening game.  After loading the bases in the bottom of the first inning, Seth Andersen earned an RBI after being hit by a pitch to give Dell Rapids a 1-0 lead after the first inning.  Eddie Price hit a one-out double and later scored on a passed ball to push the lead to 2-0.  Price and Josh Roemen each drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third inning to give Dell Rapids a 4-0 lead.  West Central pushed a run across in the top of the fourth and had the bases loaded with one out, but Roemen got Devlin Rue to hit into an inning-ending double play to get out of a jam.  Keegan Miller hit a sacrifice fly to drive home Matt Gillogly, and Dell Rapids led 5-1 after four innings of play.  Gillogly then hit an RBI single in the fifth to increase the lead.  After West Central scored another run in the top of the sixth inning, Dell Rapids scored five times in the bottom of the inning.  Price, Roemen, Carter Gullickson, and Nate McKee all had RBI hits in the inning.  West Central did score three runs in the top of the seventh, but Price retired three of the four batters he faced to close out the win for Dell Rapids.

Roemen finished the first game 3-4 with a double and two RBIs.  McKee had two hits, including a double, and an RBI.  Gillogly, Elijah Story, and Price also finished the game with two hits.  Price also had two RBIs.  Gullickson, Gillogly, Andersen, and Miller all had RBIs.  Roemen picked up the win on the mound pitching six innings giving up five runs, four earned, on four hits while walking four and striking out three.  Price pitched one inning of relief walking one batter and striking out one.

Dell Rapids then earned a 7-0 win the championship game over Vermillion.  Vermillion defeated PG/DC/WL/C 11-1 to advance to title game.  Andersen delivered the first big hit of the game for Dell Rapids in the bottom of the first.  After Dell Rapids loaded the bases, Andersen hit a bases-clearing double to left field to give Dell Rapids a 3-0 lead after the first inning.  Both pitchers were in control over the next three innings as the score remained 3-0 in favor of Dell Rapids after four complete innings.  Andersen again drove in another run in the bottom of the fifth on a hard-hit ground ball on a drawn-in infield scoring Gullickson to give Dell Rapids a 4-0 lead.  Austin Ellingson followed that hit with a two-run double to extend the lead to 6-0.  The final run for Dell Rapids came in the bottom of the sixth inning on back-to-back triples by McKee and Gillogly.

Gullickson was 3-4 in the second game with a double and two runs scored.  Andersen was 2-4 with a double and four RBIs.  McKee, Gillogly, and Ellingson all collected hits.  Ellingson had two RBIs, and Gillogly had an RBI.  Trevor Pulscher pitched the complete game shutout allowing just five hits over the seven innings while walking no batters and striking out five batters.

2017 State Track Meet Results for DR and DRSM

TrackLogoBoth the Dell Rapids Quarrier and Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal track teams had athletes that participated in the 2017 State A and State B Track Meet in Sioux Falls on Friday, May 26th, and Saturday, May 27th.

The two schools combined to have 14 place winners at the state meet.  Mason Schmidt took home the individual title for the High Jump with a leap of 6’7″.

The Dell Rapids boys finished tied for 7th overall with 32 points.  Sioux Falls Christian won the Class A Boys title.  Madison and St Thomas More tied for 1st in the Class A Girls.  Chester Area won the Class B Boys title, and Duebrook Area won the Class B Girls title.

Two Qualify for State for Quarrier Girls Golf

NewDRLogoTwo Dell Rapids Quarrier girls golfers qualified for the state tournament after their rounds at the Region 1A tournament in Volga on Thursday, May 25th.  Dell Rapids finished 6th as a team with a score of 433.  Madison won the tournament with a team score of 377.  Sisseton was 2nd with team total of 381, and McCook Central/Montrose placed 3rd with a team score of 423.  The top three teams all qualified for state.

Kaitlyn Greenhoff qualified for state individually after placed 3rd with a round of 82.  Olivia Downs also qualified for state by placing 12th with a round of 102.  Paige Sterud finished with a 119.  Sami Schmidt had a round of 120, and Mallory Haak ended the day with a 121.

Greenhoff and Downs will play in the State A golf tournament at Central Valley Golf Club in Hartford on June 5th and 6th.

Dells Baseball Advances to State Tournament for 3rd Straight Year

DRSuperRegional2017_1Dell Rapids High School Baseball is headed back to the State B Tournament for the third straight year after winning the Super Regional held at Rickeman Field on Tuesday, May 23rd.

Dell Rapids won their first game against Sioux Valley 10-0 in six innings.  Josh Roemen got the scoring started right away in the first inning after scoring on a wild pitch.  Nate McKee scored moments later on passed ball.  Seth Anderson had an RBI single to drive home Matt Gillogly, and Austin Ellingson had an RBI single to score Anderson.  Dell Rapids lead 4-0 after the first inning.  Another run came across in the bottom of the second on a McKee RBI single.  Gillogly had an RBI double and then scored on an error in the fourth inning to push the lead to 7-0.  Dell Rapids would score three more in the sixth to end the game on the 10-run rule. Roemen went 3-3 in the game with three runs scored.  Gilligoly had two hits and two RBIs.  Ellingson also had two hits and two RBIs.  Elijah Story, Jay Holm, McKee, and Anderson all had hits.  Holm and Anderson also both had two RBIs each.  Roemen pitched all six innings giving up just one hit while walking two and striking out five.

After Deuel/Hamlin/Castlewood defeated Oldham-Ramona-Rutland, Dell Rapids then placed D/H/C for a birth to the state tournament on the line.  Dell Rapids went on to beat D/H/C 10-1 to earn their third straight trip to the State B Tournament.

DRSuperRegional2017_2Dell Rapids scored in the first inning on an RBI single by Carter Gullickson to bring home Roemen. D/H/C tied the game in the top of the second at 1-1 after a passed ball.  But Dell Rapids scored eight times in the bottom of the inning.  Eddie Price hit an RBI single and scored on an error, Gullickson scored on a wild pitch, Anderson had a two-run single, Keegan Miller had an RBI single, and Story had an RBI single to give Dell Rapids a 9-1 lead after the second inning.  The final run of the game came in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by McKee.

Gullickson was 3-4 with an RBI.  Miller finished 2-3 from the plate with an RBI.  Story, Roemen, Price, McKee, and Anderson also all had hits.  Story and Anderson had two RBIs each.  Trevor Pulscher pitched six innings giving up one run, which was unearned, on four hits with one walk and six strikeouts.  Price pitched the final inning walking three and striking out three batters.

Dell Rapids will play West Central in the opening round of the State B Tournament.  All the games are on Monday, May 29th, in Sioux Falls

Dell Rapids Girls Golf 3rd at Pre-Regions, Greenhoff Wins

NewDRLogoIn a weather-shortened pre-region tournament in Volga, the Dell Rapids Quarrier girls golf team finished 3rd with a team score of 202.  Sisseton placed 1st with 199, and McCook Central/Montrose finished 2nd with 200.  The tournament was shorted to only nine holes.

Kaitlyn Greenhoff won the tournament individually in a play0ff.  Greenhoff finished with a round of 42.  Sami Schmidt finished 10th with a round of 50.  Olivia Downs placed 14th with a round of 53.  Stephanie Dennis finished with around of 57, and Mallory Haak had a 64.

The Quarriers will be back in Volga on Thursday, May 25th, for the Region 1A Tournament.

Quarrier Girls Golf Finishes 6th at Dak XII Tourney

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier girls golf team placed 6th at the Dak XII Conference golf tournament at Central Valley Golf Course in Hartford on Monday, May 22nd.  Dell Rapids finished with a team score of 407.  Canton won the conference title with 365.  Sioux Falls Christian and Vermillion both finished at 366.  Lennox had a 369 team score, and West Central finished with 391.

Kaitlyn Greenhoff placed 4th individually a round of 85 on the day.  Olivia Downs finished with a round of 100.  Rose Habeger and Paige Sterud both ended with a 111.  Sami Schmidt had a 117, and Mallory Haak finished with a 123.

The Quarriers will play in the Pre-Region Tournament in Volga on Tuesday, May 23rd.
