Quarrier Football Earns Road Win

DellRapidsFootballLogoVermillion scored in the first quarter on a 22-yard run, but Dell Rapids scored 27 unanswered for a 27-7 win over the Tanagers on Friday, September 1st, in Vermillion.  The Quarriers picked up their first win of the season after playing their first two games on the road.

Carson Rentz connected with Adam Nagelhout on a 33-yard touchdown in the second quarter to pull the Quarriers within a point at 7-6.  That would also be the halftime score.  Mason Schmidt gave Dell Rapids the lead after a 79-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the third quarter.  Matt Gillogly had a 25-yard run for a touchdown also in the third quarter, which gave Dell Rapids a 20-7 lead after three quarters of play.  Gillogly added a second touchdown in the fourth quarter on a two-yard run.

Rentz finished the game 5-11 passing for 65 yards and a touchdown.  Nagelhout had two catches for 37 yards and a touchdown.  Nick Boever had two catches for 25 yards, and Jeffrey Schuch had a catch for nine yards.  Seth Spielmann finished the game with eight carries for 70 yards.  Boever had seven rushes for 47 yards.  Gillogly had nine carries for 43 yards and two touchdowns.  Eddie Price finished the night with six tackles defensively.  Cole VanDuyn had five tackles, one for loss, and a fumble recovery.  Alex Kringen had five tackles, and Blake Reider had four tackles.  Gillogly had two sacks in the game.

Dell Rapids (1-1) will play their home-opener on Friday, September 8th, against Belle Fourche.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Arlington Gets Win over Cardinal Volleyball

DRSMvsArl_VB_8-31-17The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals fell to the Arlington Cardinals on Thursday, August 31st, at Dell Rapids St Mary High School.  Arlington won in straight sets by scores of 25-12, 25-10, 25-16.

St Mary and Arlington were tied 5-5 early in the first set, but Arlington used a couple of big runs and closed out the set on a 20-7 run to take the first set.  Arlington continued the momentum into the second set and raced out to 7-1 early lead.  They continued to roll in the second set and won 25-10.  St Mary and Arlington played a close third set through the first half.  The score was tied 10-10 before Arlington made another run to close out the match.

Cassy Geraets had three kills the lead the team.  Adyn Heinricy, Cassie Mullaney, Ella Heinitz, Rhiannon Glazier, and Veronica Beck all had two kills each.  Maddie Schwebach finished with three blocks.  Geraets had seven set assists, while Heinitz added six.  Heinricy ended the match with 32 digs.

St Mary (3-4) will travel to Castlewood on Tuesday, September 5th.

Cardinal Volleyball Wins Third Match of Season

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal volleyball team won their third match of the season in a straight-set win over the Oldham-Ramona/Rutland Raiders on Tuesday, August 29th, in Rutland.  The Cardinals won by set scores of 25-15, 25-10, 25-20.

The Cardinals served well from the line getting six aces from Cassie Mullaney and four aces from Rhiannon Glaizer.  Ella Heinitz and Cassy Geraets led the team in kills and set assists.  Heinitz and Geraets both finished with five kills.  Heinitz had 14 set assists, while Geraets had 10 assists.  Mullaney led the team with three blocks, and Adyn Heinricy finished with 20 digs defensively.

St Mary (3-3) will host Arlington in the battle of the Cardinals on Thursday, August 31st.  The match can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Quarrier Boys Golf, Finally Back to Action, Finishes 10th

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier boys golf team was able to play in their second full tournament on Tuesday, August 29th, two weeks after their last tournament.  The Quarriers played in the West Central Early Bird tournament on August 14th, but had their next two tournaments (Beresford Invite and Dells Invite) cancelled due to weather.  The weather cooperated very nicely for the Charger Invite at Spring Creek Golf Course.

Dell Rapids finished 10th with a team score of 371.  Dakota Valley won the team title with 313.  Sioux Valley was second with 326, and Tea Area was third with 337.

Mason Schmidt had the low score for the Quarriers.  He placed 12th individually with a round of 81.  Karsen Welbig finished with a round of 90.  Zach Mckee had a 95, Brandon Kubly finished with a 105, Lucas Berg shot a 107, and Malakai Anderson had a 120.  Jacob Lee of Parkston placed first with a tournament record -4 round of 68.

Head Coach Mick Hoglund said, “We need to improve in order to compete this year.  We’re getting better, but still aren’t there yet.”

The Quarriers will travel to Mitchell for the Parkston Invite on Friday, September 1st.

Quarrier Competitive Cheer Team Performs Well in First Competition

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier competitive cheer team performed well at their first competition of the season on Tuesday, August 29th.  The Quarriers were at the Watertown Invite which featured teams from Sioux Falls, Brookings, Brandon Valley, Aberdeen, Huron, Watertown, Harrisburg, Mitchell, Pierre, Yankton, and Sioux Valley.

Dell Rapids finished with 225.5 total points which was good enough for 6th overall.  Sioux Falls Washington was first with 254.5 points.  Sioux Falls Roosevelt was second with 250.5 points, and Sioux Falls O’Gorman was third with 248.5 points.  The only other Class A school in the competition, Sioux Valley, finished with 137.0 points.

Dell Rapids will host the Dells Invite on Tuesday, September 5th, at 6:30 p.m.  Seniors will be recognized at 6:15 prior to the competition.  The event will be streamed on Big Sioux Media.

Quarrier Volleyball Defeats Huskies

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team defeated the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies on Tuesday, August 29th, in Elk Point.  The Quarriers won by scores of 25-23, 25-23, 24-26, 26-24.

Jayda Knuppe led the team with 10 kills in the match.  Trinity Gordon finished with nine kills, and Hannah Fletcher and Maria Jackson both had seven kills each.  Brooke Klein had 31 digs on the night.  Gordon finished with 26 digs, Fletcher added 16 digs, and Jackson had 13 digs.  Klein, Gordon, and Jackson all had three ace serves in the match.  Fletcher finished with a game-high 32 set assists.

The Quarriers (4-2) are on a break for the next week and will resume play in Tea against the Tea Area Titans on Thursday, September 7th.

Cardinals and Quarriers Participate in McCook Cross Country Invite

CrossCountry-GenericThe Dell Rapids St Mary boys and girls cross country teams along with the Dell Rapids boys and girls cross country teams participated in the McCook Central Cross Country Invite on Tuesday, August 29th, in Salem.  The Quarrier girls finished with a team score of 38 points for 5th place.  Ethan/Parkston placed first with 20 points, Winner Area was second with 25 points, and Flandreau was third with 28 points.  The Cardinal girls did not have a team score.  The St Mary boys finished seventh with 79 points.  The Quarrier boys were eighth with 86 points.  West Central won the boys title with eight points, Burke/South Central was second with 25 points, and Ethan/Parkston was third with 44 points.

The Cardinal and Quarrier cross country teams will both be in Garretson for the Jesse James Invite for their next meet on Tuesday, September 5th.

Dakota Valley Scores Three 2nd Half TDs in Win over Quarriers

DellRapidsFootballLogoThe Dakota Valley Panthers scored three second half touchdowns, two on big plays, to earn a 20-0 win over the Dell Rapids Quarriers on Friday, August 25th, at Dakota Valley High School.

Neither team scored in the first half, but the Panthers picked up a third quarter touchdown on a 90-yard pass play to take a 7-0 lead after three quarters.  Dakota Valley scored two more times in the fourth quarter, one touchdown on an eight-yard run and the other on a 95-yard run, to push the lead to 20-0 on their way to the victory.

Dell Rapids ran 64 plays for a total of just 155 yards of offense.  The Quarriers had 109 passing yards and 46 rushing yards.  Carson Rentz was 10-23 passing for 109 yards and two interceptions.  Jeffrey Schuch had seven catches for 82 yards, and Adam Nagelhout had three catches for 27 yards.  Nagelhout also led the team in rushing with six carries for 16 yards.  Matt Gillogly had five carries for 11 yards, and Seth Spielmann had 10 carries for 11 yards.  Gillogly finished the night with nine tackles defensively.  Dillon Frantz had seven tackles, two of them for loss.  Alex Kringen had six tackles, and Schuch, Cole VanDuyn, and Eddie Price all had five tackles each.

The Quarriers (0-1) travel to Vermillion to play the Tanagers on Friday, September 1st.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Cardinal Volleyball 2-2 at Estelline Tournament

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal volleyball team finished with a 2-2 record at the Estelline Tournament on Saturday, August 26th, in Estelline.  The Cardinals had matches against Wilmot, Estelline, Summit, and Colman-Egan.

The Cardinals lost their match against Wilmot by scores of 25-12, 25-16.  Veronica Beck, Cassie Mullaney, and Rhiannon Glazier all had three kills in the match.  Ella Heinitz had two kills.  Adyn Heinricy finished with four digs.

St Mary defeated Estelline in straight sets by scores of 25-20, 25-6.  Glazier and Maddie Schwebach each had six kills in the match.  Cassy Geraets had seven set assists, and Heinitz had six assists.  Heinricy also had eight digs.  Glazier finished with seven digs.

The Cardinals also defeated Summit.  They won by scores of 28-26, 24-26, 25-20.  Glazier led the offense with eight kills.  Beck, Mullaney, and Schwebach all had five kills each.  Heinitz added 14 set assists, while Geraets had 13 assists.  Heinricy had 14 digs defensively, while Glazier added 11 digs.

Colman-Egan defeated the Cardinals by scores of 25-18, 25-22.  Mullaney had seven kills in this match.  Geraets had 10 set assists.  Heinricy again paced the defense with 13 digs.

St Mary (2-3) will travel to Rutland to take on the Oldham-Ramona/Rutland Raiders on Tuesday, August 29th.

All Runners Medal for Cardinal Cross Country Teams

DRSM LogoAll of the athletes earned top 20 finishes in their respective races for the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal cross country teams on Saturday, August 26th, at the Deubrook Cross Country Invite at Six Mile Creek Golf Course.

Jacob Vogel placed third in the varsity boys run with a time of 19:17.00.  Catherine Vogel placed seventh in the varsity girls race with a time of 23:15.00.  Seth Roemen placed eighth (12:27.00), Thomas Eining was 15th (12:56.00), and Sam Palmer was 17th (13:02.00) in the junior varsity boys race.  Addy Gilbert won the junior varsity girls run (13:16.00), and Ella Griffin placed 16th (15:23.00) for the Cardinals.

St Mary will be at the McCook Cental Invite in Salem on Tuesday, August 29th.
