Vermillion scored in the first quarter on a 22-yard run, but Dell Rapids scored 27 unanswered for a 27-7 win over the Tanagers on Friday, September 1st, in Vermillion. The Quarriers picked up their first win of the season after playing their first two games on the road.
Carson Rentz connected with Adam Nagelhout on a 33-yard touchdown in the second quarter to pull the Quarriers within a point at 7-6. That would also be the halftime score. Mason Schmidt gave Dell Rapids the lead after a 79-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the third quarter. Matt Gillogly had a 25-yard run for a touchdown also in the third quarter, which gave Dell Rapids a 20-7 lead after three quarters of play. Gillogly added a second touchdown in the fourth quarter on a two-yard run.
Rentz finished the game 5-11 passing for 65 yards and a touchdown. Nagelhout had two catches for 37 yards and a touchdown. Nick Boever had two catches for 25 yards, and Jeffrey Schuch had a catch for nine yards. Seth Spielmann finished the game with eight carries for 70 yards. Boever had seven rushes for 47 yards. Gillogly had nine carries for 43 yards and two touchdowns. Eddie Price finished the night with six tackles defensively. Cole VanDuyn had five tackles, one for loss, and a fumble recovery. Alex Kringen had five tackles, and Blake Reider had four tackles. Gillogly had two sacks in the game.
