Quarrier Football Makes it Seven in a Row

DRvsFlan_FB_10-13-17After losing the first game of the year, the Dell Rapids Quarrier football team won their seventh game in a row on Friday, October 13th.  The Quarriers defeated the Flandreau Fliers 54-15 on senior night at Dell Rapids High School.

The Quarriers held a 13-0 lead after the first quarter.  Seth Spielmann scored on a 47-yard run with Hunter Garry.  Spielmann then scored on a six yard run.  Flandreau cut the lead to 13-8 in the second quarter after a 37-yard touchdown pass from Michael Witte from Bastian Erickson.  Dell Rapids then closed out the half with three more scores.  Carson Rentz connected with Jeffrey Schuch on a 23-yard touchdown pass.  Spielmann scored his third touchdown of the half on a 47-yard run, and Nick Boever had a five-yard touchdown run.  Dell Rapids led 35-8 at halftime.

The Quarriers continued the scoring attack in the third quarter.  Eddie Price had a 36-yard run and also had an 80 yard touchdown pass to Alex Kringen to give the Quarriers a 48-8 lead after three quarters.  Flandreau scored on a 30-yard run by Witte.  Zach Schreier scored the last touchdown for Dell Rapids on a 5-yard fumble return.

Dell Rapids finished with 565 yards of total offense, 160 passing yards and 405 rushing yards.  Flandreau finished with 208 yards of total offense.

Rentz was 4-6 passing for 80 yards and a touchdown.  Price was 1-2 passing for 80 yards and a touchdown.  Kringen had one catch for 80 yards and a touchdown.  Schuch had two catches for 43 yards and a touchdown.  Josh Heinemann had a 20-yard catch, and Blake Reider had a 17-yard catch.  Spielmann had 10 carries for 151 yards and three touchdowns.  Price had three carries for 55 yards and a touchdown.  Boever had six carries for 55 yards and a touchdown.  Heinemann had six carries and 55 yards.  Thane Hilmoe led the team with six tackles.  Lealand Randel had four tackles.  Andrew Hegge, Cole Van Duyn, and Reider all finished with three tackles.

Dell Rapids (7-1) will end the regular season on Thursday, October 19th.  The Quarriers will play undefeated Madison Bulldogs in Madison.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Cardinal Football Season Ends in Rutland

DRSMvsORR_FB_10-13-17The 2017 football season came to an end for the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals on Friday, October 13th in Rutland.  The Cardinals fell to the Oldham-Ramona/Rutland Raiders 33-8 in their final regular season game.

The Cardinals opened up the game with the ball.  They were forced to punt in their first drive.  The Cardinal defense forced a fumble on the first drive of the Raiders.  The Cardinals next drive took them inside the Raider 15 yard line, but the O-R-R defense forced a turnover on downs and kept St Mary off the board.  The Raiders scored on their next drive when Casey Renaas crossed the goal line on a three-yard run with 2:15 to go in the first quarter.  St Mary again drove the ball inside the Raider 15 yard line on their next possession, and again the O-R-R defense forced a turnover on downs.  The Raiders turned that into more points when Jamus Brown connected with Hunter Breske on a 23-yard touchdown pass with 5:00 to go in the second quarter.  The Raiders scored again after a failed fourth down fake punt by the Cardinals.  Brown hit Breske again, this time on a 35-yard pass with 1:43 left in the half.  The Raiders led 18-0 at halftime.

O-R-R scored on their first drive of the second half.  Brown threw an eight-yard touchdown pass to Renaas with 8:51 to go in the third.  The two-point conversion was good, and the Raiders pushed their lead to 26-0.  Both teams traded possessions midway through the third quarter.  The Cardinal defense forced a turnover on downs with 1:01 remaining in the third quarter.  St Mary then scored on a six-minute drive.  Connor Libis scored on a four-yard touchdown run with 6:55 to go in the game.  Ethan Geraets ran the ball into the endzone for the two point conversion to make the score 26-8.  The Raiders scored the final touchdown of the game with 2:24 to go.  Jeremiah Hoekman scored on a one-yard run, and Brown kicked the extra point for the 33-8 final score.

Weston Geraets had 24 carries for 88 yards.  Libis finished with 18 carries for 62 yards and a touchdown.  W. Geraets also had 7.5 tackles and an interception.  Longville had 7.5 tackles.  E. Geraets finished with 12 tackles and a fumble recovery.

The Cardinals ended their season with a 1-7 record missing the playoffs.

Chargers Win in Straight Sets over Quarriers

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarriers fell to the top ranked Sioux Falls Christian Chargers in straight sets on Thursday, October 12th at Sioux Falls Christian High School.  The Chargers won by scores of 25-17, 25-15, 25-11.

Sydney Stofferahn had seven kills for Dell Rapids.  Maria Jackson added four kills, and Trinity Gordon had three kills.  Brooke Klein and Hannah Fletcher both finished with 12 digs in the match.  Mackenzie Grisham had 10 digs, and Gordon finished with nine digs.  Fletcher also had 13 set assists on the night.

Dell Rapids (15-7) will play in the Dak-12 Conference Tournament on Saturday, October 14th in Madison.  The Quarriers are the #4 seed and will open up the tournament against Elk Point-Jefferson.

Cardinal Volleyball Falls Short at Deubrook

DRSM LogoAfter starting the match on fire, the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals were cooled by the Deubrook Area Dolphins on Thursday, October 12th at Deubrook High School.  The Cardinals opened the match with a big 25-9 first set win, but the Dolphins won the next three sets by scores of 25-12, 25-11, 25-16 to win the match.

Maddie Schwebach paced St Mary with nine kills.  Veronica Beck and Rhiannon Glaizer both had five kills.  Cassie Mullaney added four kills.  Schwebach also finished with three blocks.  Adyn Heinricy had 15 digs to lead the Cardinals.  Cassy Geraets had eight digs.  Carly Maxwell and Glazier both had five digs.  Geraets had 27 digs and three ace serves as well.

St Mary will play in the Dakota Valley Conference tournament on Saturday, October 14th, at Elkton High School.

Dell Rapids Quarriers Send Eight to State Cross Country Meet

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier cross country team will have eight runners in the 2017 State A Cross Country Meet in Rapid City.  The Quarriers ran in the Region 2A meet on Thursday, October 12th, in Volga.

The entire Quarrier girls team qualified after finishing third at the regional meet.  Dell Rapids had 69 points.  Sioux Falls Christian won the team title with 17 points, and Flandreau placed second with 29 points.

Shaylee Hoff finished 11th with a time of 21:21.52.  Katrina Kreul was 18th with a time of 21:46.37.  Aspen Hansen (21st) had a run of 22:08.25.  Kathryn Fletcher (27th) had a time of 22:55.39.  Alli DeStigter (33rd) finished at 23:53.12, and Madysen VanOverbeeke (36th) had a time of 24:27.25.

The Dell Rapids team just missed qualifying the entire team with a fourth place finish with 76 points.  West Central was first with 15 points.  Sioux Falls Christian was second with 21 points, and Sioux Valley finished third with 61 points.

Carter Wynja and Canyon Lowman were able to qualify for the state meet as an individual runners by placing in the top 20.  Wynja placed 15th with a time of 18:24.81.  Lowman placed 18th with a time of 18:30.11.  Caleb Kirschenman (23rd) had a time of 18:54.98.  Brayden Pulscher (24th) finished with a time of 19:00.38.  Mitchell Heinemann (45th) had a time of 19:50.07.  Logan Anderson (50th) had a run of 20:00.33.

The 2017 State A Cross Country Meet will be held in Rapid City on Saturday, October 21st at Hart Ranch Camping Resort.

Six Cardinal Runners Qualify for State Cross Country

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals will be sending six runners to the 2017 State B Cross Country Meet in Rapid City on Saturday, October 21st.

The entire boys team qualified after a third place finish at the regional meet held in Irene on Wednesday, October 11th.  The boys team finished with 33 points.  Oldham-Ramona/Rutland won the region title with 29 points.  McCrossan was second with 30 points.

Jacob Vogel placed sixth.  Connor Libis placed seventh.  Thomas Eining was 23rd, Ryan Eining was 26th, and Seth Roeman placed 27th.  All five runners will participate in the state meet.  This is the first time the entire boys team has qualified for state since a 2013 State B Runner-up finish.

The girls team had one runner qualify individually.  Ella Heinitz had a state-qualifying finish of seventh.  Catherine Vogel placed 21st.

Sam Palmer finished 3rd in the boys JV race.

Klein Records 1,000th Dig in Loss to Deubrook

NewDRLogoBrooke Klein recorded her 1,000th dig of her career in a five-set loss to the Deubrook Area Dolphins on Tuesday, October 10th at Dell Rapids High School.  Deubrook defeated the Quarriers by set scores of 25-17, 24-26, 21-25, 26-24, 15-7.Klein finished with 40 digs on the night.  Trinity Gordon added 11 kills and 25 digs.  Maria Jackson finished with nine kills and nine digs.  Hannah Fletcher had 31 set assists, 22 digs, and five kills.  Sydney Stofferahn had 10 kills and two blocks, while Jayda Knuppe had nine kills.

Dell Rapids (15-6) will play at #1 Sioux Falls Christian on Thursday, October 12th.

Cardinals Fall in Five-Set Match to Hendricks

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals fell to Hendricks, MN in a five-game match on Tuesday, October 10th in Hendricks, MN.  Hendricks won by scores of 25-15, 17-25, 22-25, 25-17, 15-6.

The Cardinals used a balanced offensive attack at the net.  Maddie Schwebach had seven kills.  Veronica Beck and Cassie Mullaney finished with five kills each.  Ella Heinitz and Rhiannon Glazier both had four kills, Cassy Geraets finished with three kills.  Mullaney had six blocks, while Schwebach added three blocks.  Adyn Heinricy had 17 digs.  Glazier finished with 12 digs, and Heinitz had seven digs.  Geraets had 28 set assists in the match.  Geraets also had five ace serves.  Heinricy added three ace serves.

St Mary (8-14) will travel to Deubrook Area on Thursday, October 12th.

Quarrier Volleyball Wins in Baltic

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team won for the seventh time in their last eight matches and won their 15th match of the season on Monday, October 9th.  The Quarriers defeated the Baltic Bulldogs in straight sets by scores of 25-18, 25-23, 25-14.

Sydney Stofferahn led the team with seven kills.  Trinity Gordon, Maria Jackson, and Jayda Knuppe all had five kills.  Hannah Fletcher and Brooke Klein both had three kills each.  Klein also added 25 digs.  Gordon finished with 10 digs, and Fletcher had six digs.  Fletcher also had a team-high 23 set assists.  Jackson also finished with two ace serves in the match.

Dell Rapids (15-5) will host the Deubrook Area Dolphins on Tuesday, October 10th.

Cardinal Cheer 3rd in Mitchell

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal competitive cheer team placed 3rd at the Mitchell Invite on Saturday, October 7th.  The Cardinals finished with a team score of 189.50 points.  Arlington/Lake Preston placed 1st with 204.50 points.  Huron was 2nd with 199.00 points.

Huron won the dance portion of the invite.  Yankton was 2nd followed by Platte-Geddes, Rapid City Stevens, and Mitchell.

The Cardinals will be at the Lake Preston Invite on Monday, October 16th.
