Last Second, Game-Winning Shot Falls Short for Beresford Girls

The Beresford Watchdog girls had the ball with about :20 with a chance to win the game down by two points.  The last second, game-winning three-point shot fell short, and the Chester Flyers survived at home, 60-58, on Thursday, January 9th.

The two teams went back and forth throughout much of the first quarter.  The game was tied 11-11 before Chester went on a big run.  They ended the first quarter with a 19-11 lead.  The Flyers continued their run and went ahead 35-15 with 3:00 to play in the half.  The Watchdogs cut the lead to 35-20 by halftime.

Beresford used a big third quarter to get themselves back into the game.  Their pressure defense and offensive rebounds helped them chip away at the lead.  The Watchdogs outscored Chester 24-8 in the third quarter and held a 44-43 lead going into the final quarter.  Chester scored the first six points of the fourth quarter to go back in front 49-44 with 5:00 to go.  Beresford got within a point, 59-58, with :30 to go.  After a made free-throw by Chester to make the score 60-58, Beresford had the ball and time to set up a game-winning attempt.  A three-point shot from the corner was just short, and Chester gathered the rebound as the buzzer sounded for the win.

Lily Seivert finished with 24 points and seven rebounds.  Harley Koth added 16 points, seven rebounds, four steals, and three assists.  Elle Merriman had seven points and five rebounds.  Kendra Ellis ended with six points, seven rebounds, and three steals.
