Second Quarter Surge Helps Watchdog Girls to Season-Opening Win

The Beresford Watchdog girls basketball team had a big second quarter that helped them to a 51-32 win over the Baltic Bulldogs at home on Friday, December 8th.

The Watchdogs led 15-10 at the end of the first quarter.  The defense then held Baltic to just two points in the second quarter, while the offense scored 17 to give Beresford a 32-12 lead at halftime.  The Bulldogs cut into the lead in the third quarter.  Baltic outscored Beresford 13-6 to cut the lead to 38-25 going into the final quarter.  The Watchdogs would outscore Baltic 13-7 in the final quarter for the win.

Beresford shot 34% (19-56) overall in the game, 22% (5-23) from three-point area, and 36% (8-22) from the free-throw line.  Baltic was 28% (11-40) shooting from the field overall, 1-9 on three-point attempts, and 56% (9-16) from the free-throw line.  The Watchdog defense also forced 27 Baltic turnovers in the game.

Ella Merriman had 34 points, seven steals, three rebounds, and two assists.  Lily Seivert added six points.  Harley Koth had three points, nine rebounds, and two steals.  Kylie Mockler and Kendra Ellis both had three points each, and Cassie Twedt had two points.
