Baltic Softball Can’t Hold Early Lead

The Baltic Bulldogs had an early lead in their softball game against Sioux Valley on Friday, April 12th.  The Cossacks, however, scored nine runs in the final three innings to get the win 15-8.

Sioux Valley jumped in front right away in the top of the fist inning with two runs.  Baltic responded with a five-run bottom of the first.  Katelyn Moser had a two-run single to tie the game.  Moser later scored on an error along with Alexis Kehn.  Madyson Determan also scored on an error to put Baltic ahead 5-2.  Sioux Valley tied the game with a three-run top of the third inning.  Kehn scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the third to put Baltic back in front, 6-5.

The Cossacks would then score the next five runs.  They had a run in the top of the fourth inning and then scored four times in the top of the fifth for a 10-6 lead.  Moser hit a home run to lead off the bottom of the fifth for Baltic to cut the lead to 10-7, but that was as close as the Bulldogs would get.  Sioux Valley added another run in the sixth and four more in the top of the seventh.  Haedyn Painter had an RBI groundout in the bottom of the seventh.

Moser had two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs.  Painter had a single and an RBI.  Anna Hoekman finished with two hits.  Ryah Peters and Kaiya Lenderts both had one hit each.  Peters pitched 4 1/3 innings and allowed nine runs, six earned, on 10 hits and a walk with three strikeouts.  Charlee Blommer pitched 2 2/3 innings allowing six earned runs on seven hits and three walks with four strikeouts.
