The Baltic Bulldog softball team finished 2-1 at the Big East Conference Tournament held on Saturday, May 23rd. The Bulldogs faced Chester, Parker, and Flandreau.
Chester 5, Baltic 4
A rally in the bottom of the fifth fell just short for Baltic against the Flyers. Chester scored two runs in top of the first. Ellie Pickett and Analiyah Hansen each had an RBI in the bottom of the second to tie the game. Chester retook the lead with to runs in the top of the third. They added one more in the top of the fifth to make the score 5-2. Amelia Sinding had an RBI single, and Madyson Determan had an RBI sacrifice fly to make the score 5-4. The tying run was on third base with two outs, but the Bulldogs couldn’t get the run home.
Sinding had two hits and an RBI. Kaylee Siemonsma also had two singles. Determan finished with a hit and an RBI. Ashlyn Klein and Anna Hoekman both added a single. Pickett and Hansen each had one RBI. Charlee Blommer pitched five innings and allowed five runs, four earned, on six hits and three walks with four strikeouts.
Baltic 20, Parker 4
Two big innings helped give Baltic the four-inning win over Parker. The Bulldogs put eight runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning for an 8-0 lead. They added four more in the bottom of the second to extend the lead to 12-0. Parker got two runs in the top of the third and two more in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 12-4. The Bulldogs then scored eight more times in the bottom of the fourth to end the game.
Siemonsma had a single and double with three RBIs. Kya Rollinger ended with two singles and two RBIs. Madyson Determan had two hits, one a double, and an RBI. Hoekman had a triple with two RBIs. Skyler Wehde also had a triple with two RBIs. Klein ended with a triple and one RBI. Sinding and Blommer both had a double and an RBI. Pickett and Brielle Nelson each had a single with an RBI. Jordyn Wehde also had an RBI. Klein pitched four innings and allowed four earned runs on four hits and five walks with seven strikeouts.
Baltic 6, Flandreau 4
The Bulldogs stopped a rally in the top of the fifth to get the 6-4 win over the Flandreau Flyers. Flandreau scored their first run in the top of the first inning. Klein would put Baltic in front in the bottom of the first with a two-run double. Rollinger added an RBI single int he bottom of the second, and Klein brought home two more with a triple to make the score 5-1. Pickett added an RBI ground out in the bottom of the third to extend the lead to 6-1. The Flyers scored three runs with two outs in the top of the sixth to pull within two, 6-4, but Blommer got a strikeout to end the game and stop the rally.
Klein ended with a triple and double with four RBIs. Rollinger had two hits, one a double, and an RBI. Siemonsma added a triple and single. Hoekman also had two hits. Sinding finished with a single, and Pickett added an RBI. Blommer pitched five innings and allowed four earned runs on seven hits and a walk with nine strikeouts.
