Tri-Valley Rallies Past Quarrier Volleyball

NewDRLogoAfter losing the first game, the Tri-Valley Mustangs went on to win the next three and beat the Dell Rapids Quarrires in volleyball action on Thursday, September 17th, at Tri-Valley.  Final scores were 22-25, 25-15, 25-9, 25-19.

Mikaela and Sydney Stofferahn led the attacking for Dell Rapids with six and four kills respectively.  Chloe Solberg tallied 25 assists in the match.  Hannah Welbig led the defense with 19 digs.  Trinity Gordon and Brooke Klein each had nine digs.  S. Stofferahn added four blocks.  Mara Adams had 11 points from the service line.  Kia Schumacher had five points, including one ace.

The Quarriers fall to 4-5 on the year.  Dell Rapids will host Garretson on Tuesday, September 22nd.

Cardinal Volleyball Drops Match to Colman-Egan

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal volleyball team lost their match to the Colman-Egan Hawks on Thursday, September 17th, in straight games by scores of 25-14, 25-15, 25-14.

Kennedi Mullaney and Jackie Wolles each had five kills in the match for the Cardinals.  Cassy Geraets had six assists.  Kayla Scherff finished with five digs.  Haley Michel and Wolles each had four digs, and Adyn Heinriy and Geraets each had three digs.

The Cardinals record now drops to 0-9.  St Mary will travel to Flandreau to play at the Flandreau Indian School on Tuesday, September 22nd.

Girls 5th, Boys 7th for Quarrier Cross Country at SFC Invite

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier boys and girls cross country teams participated in the SF Charger Invite at Yankton Trails Park in Sioux Falls on Thursday, September 17th.  The Quarrier girls finished fifth as a team with 88 points.  Beresford won the event with 20 points.  Sioux Falls Christian was second with 37 points, Canton placed third with 61, and Madison finished fourth with 64.

The Quarrier boys placed finished seventh as a team with 133.  West Central won the boys title with 25 points.  Sioux Falls Christian was second with 29, Madison third with 69, Beresford fourth with 79, and Western Christian was fifth with 88 points.

Cardinal Girls Cross Country Team Finish 2nd at Freeman

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal cross country team finished near the top of the standings one again in their latest meet.  The Cardinals finished second as a team at the Flyer Invitational in Freeman on Wednesday, September 16th.  St Mary had a total of 32 points.  Gayville-Volin won the event with 11 points.  Bon Homme was third with 34 points, and Freeman finished fourth with 35 points.

Christina Vogel earned another victory individually posting a time of 21:55.75.  Ella Heinitz finished eighth with a time of 23:58.89.  Catherine Vogel finished at 26:38.51.  Paige Bunkers had a time of 28:59.26.

Drew Wood posted a time of 23:25.08 for the varsity boys team.

Connor Libis posted another win for the Cardinal JV boys.  He finished with a time of 10:19.19.  Thomas Eining finished with a time of 13:05.42.  Hunter Griffen posted a time of 14:27.93.  The JV boys finished fourth as a team.

The Cardinals will next participate in the Dell Rapids Invite on Wednesday, September 23rd.

Quarrier Volleyball Improves to 4-4

DRHSvsCanton_VB_9-15-15The Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team won their fourth match of the season and improved their record to 4-4 on the year after a 25-20, 25-13, 25-21 win over the Canton C-Hawks on Tuesday, September 15th, in Dell Rapids. DRHSvsCanton_VB_9-15-15_2

Mikaela Stofferahn tallied 10 points in the match and eight kills.  Kia Schumacher added five points and nine digs.  Trinity Gordon picked up five points and eight digs.  Chloe Solberg had 19 set assists in the match along with five aces.

Head coach Dale Solberg said, “I was pleased with everyone contributing one way or another.  I am seeing us making positive strides in all facets of the game at all levels.”

The Quarriers will travel to Tri-Valley to face the Mustangs on Thursday, September 17th.

JV Results

The JV team defeated the Canton C-Hawks 25-10, 25-10.  Arial Hoffman posted 13 points and five kills.  Gordon had seven points, seven digs, and five kills.  Sara Van Regenmorter added eight points and three kills.

C Team Results

The C Team remained undefeated by beating Canton 25-21, 25-4.  Maria Jackson led the Quarriers with 17 points, six digs, and one block.  Emma Paul had six points, three kills, and four digs.  Regan Stone and Jayda Knuppe added three kills each.  Lydia Symens finished with 13 digs, while Ravyn Hoffman had 11 digs.

Viola “Ole” Schneider Buhler

Viola BuhlerViola “Ole” Marie Engberg Schneider Buhler passed on to Heaven on September 14, 2015. Her memorial service will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Kahler Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, September 26, 2015. Inurnment will be in the Dell Rapids Cemetery. Condolences may be left at www.kahlerfh.com.

Born November 5, 1926 on a farm (but not in the barn) near Butler, SD to Oscar and Rosa Engberg. She attended school in Bristol, SD and was married to Percy Schneider in 1943. She lived in Downey, CA during WWII while Percy served in Germany. Her son, Richard, was born while in CA in 1945. They then moved to Dell Rapids after the war, where their second son, Douglas, was born in 1951.

Ole worked at several places during those years including; the creamery, JI Case and Peterson Drug. The implement dealership was always her favorite. Percy was killed in an industrial accident in 1965. Ole reconnected with Lyle Buhler, a high school friend, and moved to Sioux Falls in 1968 when they married. While living in Sioux Falls, Ole worked for Kindler Auto, then for AAA Travel, where she retired in 1989. Lyle passed away in 1991. Ole enjoyed visiting with anyone she met and played cards and cribbage with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ole is survived by her two sons and their spouses: Richard and Shari Schneider of Wichita, KS; Douglas and Evelyn Schneider of Sioux Falls, SD. She is survived by five step children: Larry and Pam Buhler of Sturgis, SD; Bruce and Susan Buhler of Watertown, SD; Dawn Bedard of Lindell Beach, BC; Carol Buhler of Belle Fouche, SD; Jim and Mary Buhler of Watertown, SD. Ole is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Todd and Michelle Schneider of Sioux Falls, SD; Sonja and Michael Kellen of Kirkland, WA; Ken Schneider, Scott and Crystal Schneider, Troy and Cheri Schneider, Tammy Schneider, all of Wichita, KS; Tim and Michelle Buhler of Denver, CO; Matt Buhler of Sturgis, SD; Rebecca and Derek Gouldin of Hibbing, MN; Meagan Buhler of Phoenix, AZ; Molly Buhler of Watertown, SD; Justin and Ashley Buhler of Brandon, SD; Tyler and Myriah Buhler of Watertown, SD. Thirteen great grandchildren survive her as well. She was preceded in death by Percy Schneider, Lyle Buhler, one grandson, and two great grandsons.

Donald Brown

Donald BrownDonald Raymond Brown, 88, of Dell Rapids passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Dells Area Health Center Hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 AM Saturday, September 19, 2015 at St. Joseph The Workman Catholic Church, Huntimer, SD. Visitation with the family present will begin 2 hours prior to the service at the church. Condolences may be left at www.minnehahafuneralhome.com.

Donald was the only child of Elmer and Catherine (Cole) Brown. He was born February 16, 1927 in Garretson, SD, then moved at the age of 3 with his family to their farm west of Dell Rapids where he lived and farmed until moving to town in 2013. Donald married Maxine Greenen September 11, 1948 in Vancouver, WA. They were married 67 years and have 2 children.

His small family was all important to Don as well as the land he farmed so well. Don enjoyed hunting and was a superb marksman, fishing, traveling with his family and sharing his bountiful vegetable garden.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine; daughter, Nancy Glammeier; son, Lloyd (Shannon); granddaughters, Kylene (Damon) Rudd, Alainna and Shaughnessy Brown and great-grandchildren, William and Samantha Rudd and Austin Kiggins.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Giesella Glammeier and great-grandson, Jeremiah Kiggins.

Quarrier Cross Country Results from Luverne

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier cross country team traveled to Luverne on Saturday, September 12th.

The varsity girls team placed third as a team.  Shaylee Hoff finished 12th, Shaina Visser 18th, Aspen Hansen 21st, Avery Pankonen 22nd, and Kaylee Henned 26th.  The JV girls team also placed third.  Katie Jaycox placed 8th, Amanda Tomes 15th, Raigan Schmidt 19th, Emily Dorn 22nd, Ella Lueders 25th, and Sydney Eichinger 26th.  The 7th/8th grade girls team placed second.  Kathryn Fletcher placed 3rd, Olivia Downs 7th, Rebecca Dorn 11th, Olivia Stelzer 13th, Ceara Schellum 13th, and Abby Stauffenecker 24th.

The varsity boys team placed fourth.  Caleb Kirschenmann placed eighth, Carter Wynja 17th, Ted DeLange 25th, Brett Mogen 26th, and Dominic Holmes 37th.  The JV boys placed fourth as a team.  Derek Ahlers finished fifth, Gabe Skonseng 13th, Evan Schmidt 18th, and Micah Gleason 24th.  The 7th/8th grade team placed second as a team.  Logan Anderson finished 10th, Logan Millman 11th, Ryan Keener 14th, Seth Clement 29th, and Logan Visser 30th.
