Fourth Quarter Difference Gives Hawks Win over Cub Girls

The Alcester-Hudson Cub girls did not get any field goals in the fourth quarter and were held to just two points.  That proved to be the difference as the Canistota Hawks took a 36-30 win over the Cubs on Friday, January 10th.

The offense was hard to come by for both teams throughout most of the game.  The score was tied 2-2 with 3:30 to play in the first quarter.  The Hawks finished the quarter with five straight points for a 7-2 lead.  Alcester-Hudson found some rhythm in the second quarter.  They outscored Canistota 12-8 to cut the lead to 15-14 by halftime.

Canistota started the third quarter with a 9-3 advantage for a 24-17 lead.  The Cubs rallied for seven straight points to tie the score 24-24 with 2:45 remaining in the quarter.  They continued their run and took a 28-26 lead into the fourth quarter.  Canistota outscored Alcester-Hudson 8-1 for a 34-29 lead with 2:15 remaining in the game.  The Cubs were only able to get one more free throw in the quarter.

Emily Winquist had 15 points.  Emma Solberg ended with seven points.  Devin Hongslo had four points.  Emma Moller and Delta Pies each had two points in the game.

The Cubs also lost a game earlier in the week.  Alcester-Hudson traveled to Avon on Tuesday, January 7th and lost 58-24.
