The Alcester-Hudson Cubs girls basketball team held their first two games of the season on Tuesday, December 10th and Thursday, December 12th. The Cubs fell to the Akron-Westfield Westerners on Tuesday and then fell to the Gayville-Volin Raiders on Thursday.
Akron-Westfield 46, Alcester-Hudson 31
The Cubs held a slim 4-3 lead after the first quarter as both offenses tried to get going in the game on Tuesday. The offenses did get rolling in the second quarter, and the Westerners took a 22-16 lead into halftime. They were able to extend their lead to 10 points, 34-24, going into the fourth quarter. Akron-Westfield outscored the Cubs 12-7 in the final quarter for a 46-31 final score.
Delta Pies had eight points and two rebounds. Emma Moller had six points and three rebounds. Emily Winquist finished with five points, four rebounds, and four assists. Hannah Ahart ended with two points with five rebounds.
Gayville-Volin 46, Alcester-Hudson 36
The Raiders got out to a quick lead in the opening quarter of the game on Thursday. Gayville-Volin led 16-5 after the first quarter. The Cubs were able to cut into the lead in the second quarter and trailed 24-16 going into halftime. Alcester-Hudson pulled within five points, 26-21, with 6:15 to play in the third quarter. The Raiders, however, went on a 9-2 run to extend the lead to 35-23. Winquist hit a three-point shot at the buzzer to make the score 35-26 going into the final quarter. Gayville-Volin was able to maintain their lead to a 44-34 victory.
Emma Solberg had 11 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Winquist finished with 11 points and five rebounds. Pies had four points and two rebounds. Jenna Manning also had four points. Ahart added two points and four rebounds.
