Alcester-Hudson Girls Fall Short in Region 4B

The #6 seeded Alcester-Hudson Cubs fell just short of advancing in the Region 4B Tournament in Freeman on Tuesday, February 20th.  The Cubs’ rally in the second half came up short in a 51-46 loss to the #3 seeded Gayville-Volin Raiders.

The Raiders got out to a quick 10-2 lead in the first half of the opening quarter.  They extended that lead to 15-6 by quarter’s end.  Gayville-Volin then scored the first eight points of the second quarter for a 23-6 lead with 3:50 to play in the first half.  The Raiders led by more than 20 points in the quarter and were ahead 32-13 at halftime.

The Cubs stormed back in the third quarter.  Alcester-Hudson opened the second half with a 16-0 run to cut the lead to 32-29 with 2:15 to play in the third quarter.  The Raiders were able to get on the board with under 2:00 to play in the quarter and then led 40-32 going into the fourth quarter.  Alcester-Hudson pulled within three points, 43-40, with 5:00 to go after made free-throws by Elly Doering.  Jenna Manning tied the game, 45-45, on a three-point shot with 2:12 remaining.  The Raiders, however, ended the game with a 6-1 run to secure the win.

The Cubs finish their season with an overall record of 5-15.
