The Alcester-Hudson Cubs volleyball team earned a home win over the Irene-Wakonda Eagles on Tuesday, October 15th. The Cubs won in four sets by scores of 25-23, 22-25, 25-xx, and 25-18. The win snapped a three match skid. During the match Hannah Ahart broke the school career digs record that was previously held by Alyssa Keisser (1,431).
The first set started with a 2-2 tie. The Eagles took an 8-6 lead and continued to lead 14-12. The Cubs tied the score 16-16 but then went ahead 19-18. Alcester-Hudson led 23-21 before the Eagles tied the score 23-23. The Cubs would score the final two points for a 25-23 win. The second set started with a tie again, 3-3. Irene-Wakonda took an 8-6 lead, but this time kept the lead at 14-12. They extended the lead to 17-13, but the Cubs tied the score 18-18. Irene-Wakonda went on a 5-3 run for a 23-21 lead and then won 25-22.
Alcester-Hudson opened the third set with a 5-3 lead. They stayed in front 7-5 and then extended the lead to 12-8. The Eagles tied the score 15-15. Alcester-Hudson, though, was able to hold off the Eagles the rest of the set for a 25-21 win. Irene-Wakonda held a slim 3-2 lead to start the fourth set. The Cubs responded with a 4-1 run for a 6-4 advantage. They extended the lead to 13-9. Alcester-Hudson kept increasing the lead to 18-13 and then 21-15. The Cubs took the match with a 25-18 win.
Ahart finished with 18 digs, 10 kills, nine set assists, and five ace serves. Connie Hathcoat had five kills and eight digs. Devin Honglso added six kills and five digs. Jenna Manning had 13 digs and three ace serves. Emma Moller had eight kills, and McKenna Huenink had five kills. Jaeley Christensen ended with 10 digs, and Baylee Klaschen had eight digs.
