The Alcester-Hudson Cubs earned a win in the opening round of the Region 4B tournament on Monday, November 4th. The Cubs earned a 3-1 win over the Viborg-Hurley Cougars by set scores of 25-20, 21-25, 25-14, and 25-17.
Alcester-Hudson started the match with a 4-1 run. They were able to extend the lead to 8-3 early in the opening set. The Cougars got within three points, 8-5, but the Cubs kept about a three-point lead to 12-9. They continued to lead by three points at 17-14 and 19-16. Viborg-Hurley got within a point, 19-18, but the Cubs finished the set on a 6-2 run for a 25-20 win. The second set started with a 4-4 tie. The teams went back and forth to a 9-9 tie. The Cougars went on a 4-0 run to take a 13-9 lead. Viborg-Hurley kept the lead to an 18-14 score. The Cubs cut the lead to one point, 19-18, but the Cougars would finish the second set on a 6-3 run for a 25-21 win.
Viborg-Hurley started the third set with a 4-1 run. The Cubs went on a 5-2 run to tie the score 6-6. The score was tied again 8-8 and 9-9. Alcester-Hudson went on a 4-1 run for a 13-10 lead. They continued to the run and pushed the lead to 19-11. The Cubs took the third set 25-14. Viborg-Hurley started the fourth set with an early 4-2 lead. Alcester-Hudson responded with a 8-0 run for an 10-4 lead. The Cougars got within a points, 13-12, but the Cubs shut down the rally and were able to extend the lead to 18-14. Alcester-Hudson led 20-17 before scoring the final five points of the match for the win.
Emma Moller finished with nine kills and 12 digs. Emma Solberg had seven kills, five blocks, and nine digs. Emily Winquist added five kills and 16 digs. Hannah Ahart ended with four kills, seven set assists, and 22 digs. Jaeley Christensen had 12 set assists and 22 digs. Jenna Manning had 29 digs, and Baylee Klaschen had 19 digs.
