The Alcester-Hudson Cubs had the final regular season road match on Monday, October 28th. The Cubs fell to the Viborg-Hurley Cougars in five sets by scores of 28-26, 14-25, 15-25, 26-24, and 15-12.
The Cougars started with a 5-2 lead to start the first set. Alcester-Hudson tied the score 8-8. Viborg-Hurley then went on an 8-1 run to take a 16-9 lead. The Cubs chipped away at the lead. They cut the lead to 22-19 and then tied the score 24-24. The score was tied again 25-25 and 26-26. The Cougars would score the final two points for the 28-26 win.
After a 5-5 tie to start the second set, the Cubs went on a 10-3 run for a 15-8 lead. Alcester-Hudson continued their run to a 21-10 lead before winning 25-14. The Cubs carried the momentum into the third set. They started on a 7-0 run. The lead grew to 17-5 which helped Alcester-Hudson to a 25-15 win.
The Cougars took the momentum right away to start the fourth set by starting with a 5-0 run. The Cubs were able to cut the lead to one point, 10-9. The Cougars held a two-to-three point lead to an 18-15 score. Alcester-Hudson pulled within a point 22-21, and then they tied the score 24-24. The Cougars, however, got the final two points for a 26-24 win.
Viborg-Hurley started the fifth and final set with a 3-2 lead. The Cubs then scored the next three points to go in front 5-3. The two teams then went back and forth to ties of 7-7, 9-9, and 12-12. The Cougars finished the set and match with a 3-0 run for a 15-12 victory.
Hannah Ahart tallied eight kills, 14 set assists, 35 digs, and seven ace serves. Emma Solberg had eight kills, 11 digs, and three blocks. Emily Winquist added six kills and 13 digs. Karina Pulfrey had four kills, four blocks, and two digs. Emma Moller ended with three kills and nine digs. Jaeley Christensen had 17 digs and five set assists, and Baylee Klaschen had 10 digs.
